All of the name calling and hate. Is it really anyway to push an agenda of peace? Example instead of saying bad things about conservatives and the war we could extole the virtues of peace. I mean most conservatives don't want our souldiers to die and saying that they do only enrages people and then they don't hear that what is really being said is that wouldn't it be nice if we weren't sending our young able bodied soldiers into harms way and they were here with the families that they love??

Why is it that the Higgins boats used at Normandy on D-day had no way to provide cover for disembarking troops (mounted machine guns, rockets, etc), and opened in the front, exposing the men inside to fire? I've seen that the boats used to cross the Rhine river in Operation Varsity did have at least one kind of mounted machine gun, and opened in the rear of the boat. was it really too hard to slap a few MG's on a landing boat on D-Day?

If you have served on a ship recently, I'd be interested in finding out what you wanted and needed while out to sea. I have "adopted" a sailor on the USS Eisenhower (they are now heading for the Persian Gulf) and I'd like to get some good ideas of things to send him. I don't know the guy, and I have no way of contacting him to see what he would like. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Remember their families to. There are a ton of us spouses without our soldier. The are even more children without their parent(s). Duriring this holiday season try to help them out too. They may not be in harm's way but they are sacrificing too. Trying to keep the holidays normal and festive is especially hard this time of year. For soldiers the holidays are hard, for the families is is almost harder. Because we have to make the holidays a certain way for are children's sake. So please offer a kind word, a helping hand, or any kind of heartfelt gesture. Will you please try at least?

Do high-tech machine guns, such as Vulcan cannons, suffer from stoppages? I'm just back from live-fire training today, firing a 7.62mm machine gun (an old model, but still used by some countries). Encountered a lot of stoppages, in which case I had to manually clear the chamber. Gave me a hard time. The question is, if a 7.62mm machine gun fires approximately 1,000 rounds per minute and is prone to jamming, what happens to the 30mm GAU-8 cannon, for example, which has a rate of fire of 4,000 rounds per minute?
