I serve with a guy who grew up in Scotland. I don't know why he decided to join the U.S Army but all I can say is that he's a good soldier.

Is there an answer other than "there is a difference" when I say that joining a foreign military is treason I say this because OK the U.S. are our allies at the moment but what about down the road? Why not join the Taliban or the Iranian military. Why not Al Quaeda, N Korea. But seriously, it is obvious that these people have been brought up on a diet of John Wayne movies and believe it is real

Britain has a long maritime tradition; Britain is an island, so they are an asset to the American military especially the Navy. Joining the U.S. armed forces also gives foreign-born nationals permanent residency status after their enlistment is up. They are also on a fast track to becoming naturalized citizens.

Sure it's their life but it doesn't seem right.
Imagine this (UK here folks) we suddenly went to war against America?
Admittedly they'd blow is country of the earth but what would the guys and girls do who'd joined the American forces though still had family here in the UK?

Like those that join the French Foreign Legion they are obviously trying to escape something at home.

The more the merrier, because we're losing our military in Iraq to roadside bombs and snipers.
