Law Enforcement & Police - March 2007

I received a ticket for speeding while driving behind an officer. I actually slowed down before i came up behind the officer. I was going approx 55 mph when he pulled over, allowed me to pass, then put his lights on. is this legit? What are my chances of winning if i contest this?

a friend of mine's daughter held up a business with her boyfriend. they got a lot of money & spent it on all kinds of stuff, clothes, booze, drugs, furniture etc. they were watched by detectives. finaly they were arrested. my friends daughter confessed. she testified yesterday at his preliminary hearing. he was held over for trial. she waived her right to a preliminary hearing on simular chartes, which are robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, conspiracy, simple assault & drug offenses. they held the place up with masks on & had a bb gun which looked real. what will happen to her since she confessed? she testified that they did it to get money to begin a new life. any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

What are the regulations for K-9 dogs that work with the police/border patrol? Do the dog's have to be a certain breed? Does the animal's training vary state to state for different circumstances? What about the age? If you can give me some websites for training and other information about this subject that would be great. Personal experience is even better. To give you an idea I'm looking into a career as a BP agent with K-9 unit after I finish my bachelors in Criminal Justice.

Can I leave from wisconsin to louisianna to make a citizens arrest on someone for non payment of child support? They have a warrent in Wi and child support wont do any thing to go go get him.He's at least 6K behind if that helps.

The representative for the police said the CCTV was not shown 'in context' with the rest of the situation.

But .... how can they justify their actions with that statement? Surely we should be safe on the streets to know that we will not get repeatedly beaten by the police whatever we have done. The police are there to stop violence, not add to it ...... or have we suddenly taken rules from other countries and no-one told me???????!!

I just joined the Navy, scheduled to leave for basic training in June. A week after I swore in and signed my contract my Navy recruiter calls me and says that MEPS did my background check and I have a warrant from not completing my community service hours from a "Theft Under $300" charge from 1998, but my recruiter, a few other people and i have called the central processing staion,the court houses, court clerks, and police stations, and they all say there is no record of me having any warrants. Now the Navy might not want to take me in, how is this possible???

I appreciate the police preventing anarchy, but...If the majority of cops are good, why do they tolerate the bad cops? What's with this code of silence thing? Isn't your loyalty supposed to be to justice first? How can you be for truth and justice and allow other cops to trample on it? SERPICO!!!!

Is there an order for restitution or confiscation of assets?

What with Lord Chief Justice Phillips saying that there are going to be too many 'geriatric lifers' in prison today and a few weeks back a paedophile was spared a jail sentence due to overcrowding where will it all end? It seems to me that the only way this kind of thinking can go is to the point where some crimes aren't punished at all. And then what.....?

I can't believe that the answer to crime is to not sentence people especially for murder. It's obviously an overcrowding and financial problem but there must be another way? It's pathetic to wrap the problem up in a load of tat about there being no need for many of the life sentences that are handed out. Isn't that what we already have appeal proccesses for along the way? Who cares if there are pensioner murderers locked up? It's not a reason alone to consider shorter spells in prison. Afterall most of their victims will have never even been given the chance to get to that age!
