They must knock, and then either you invite them in, and once inside they take action, or they see illegal activity from the doorway. If they see illegal activity they can enter the premises to arrest the person, or protect the life of someone in dagger.

People not understanding the law is what get them in trouble. When cops comes to your door walk out close the door behind you lock it if possible and talk with the police outside the house. This protects you from most probable cause searches. If the cops ask you anything don't give them any answers but always be polite or other wise cooperative. Cops are experts at making you incriminate yourself. If it is your house make it plain and clear no one else but you are allowed to answer the door. It is your idiot friends the will most likely get you in trouble. So when you see cops driving up to your house tell your friends to be quite and put away any paraphernalia and be quite. The cop will give you a warning and go away but don't be anywhere nears as noisy as your were before because you are now disturbing the peace.

dunric huh? I have broken up a few parties there in Flagstaff. The ear twist was because your friend was passed out and a sternum rub or ear lobe pinch is authorized to ensure a subject can be awoken. It is done to protect idiots who drink themselves to death. (Trust me, I have moved the bodies of those who have). Flagstaff PD is a lot more lenient than most PDs I have seen for parties. We always gave a warning on the first visit.
The trick, otherwise, is to never open your door. When I was in college (Go Spartans!) all I would ever do is speak to the police through an upstairs window. Lock all doors and close all shades. Promise to shut up and send everyone home. Don't let anyone go outside who is underage!
If you are in a city like Flagstaff where they just give warnings for the first visit then just go outside to talk to them and shut the party down.
BTW, you cannot just shoot anyone who enters without a warrant. Not anywhere.

If there is underage drinkers at a party, police can come in uninvited as there might be children in need of protection in the house. Most often, it is the party host that calls us because things have gotten out of control and they let us in.
Most often we knock and try to speak to the host and explain to them that complaints have been made about the party noise and that it is time to shut it down or face noise by-law tickets or charges of mischief (complete with stereo equipment seizures). In these cases party hosts sometimes will be able to quiet down the guests and send them on their way, or sometimes they ask us to be the party poopers and we will upon invitation go in and break up the fun.
If a police officer has the authority to enter your house without your permission they will come in, whether or not you "permit" them or not. Lack of cooperation on your part will increase the odds of getting a by-law ticket.

If they knock on the door and the person that answers it structures their sentences like you did this question, then that gives them probable cause to believe that they are drugs being used at that party and they can crash it.
Seriously, if they are there on a legitimate complaint (i.e. excessive noise, underage drinking, etc.) they not only have a right, but a duty to investigate. Under certain circumstances, they may have a right to enter uninvited, forcibly if necessary. If they see anything illegal in plain sight, they can arrest for it.

I can say from personal experiences that cops often violate their own laws when they institute the so-called "knock and talk" procedure.
In October 1995 in Flagtaff, I attended a house party off-campus near my college. The party was pretty wild and the Flagstaff cops eventually showed up. They knocked on the door, announced their presence, but was soon as it was opened they barged in and basically terrorized the occupants. One cop even twisted a man's ear who was passed out on a couch.
Bottom line: if a cop (or anyone else) enters your house or place of residence without a warrant, you can (by law) shoot them as trespassers. Look it up. At least in the state of Texas. Not sure about Arizona, though. I am not advocating such action, obviously, but it's on the books (at least technically speaking). Good luck trying to prove self defense with the local judges, however.

If the cop replaced into on the scene he little question made a rfile. you will could desire to go on your community police branch to get a replica of it. it in many situations takes quite a few days for the rfile to make it interior the path of the device. as quickly as you get a replica of the rfile you would be able to desire to document a declare with the different social gathering's coverage agency. not something is going to ensue and not something will substitute until you are attempting this. cops have almost thoroughly gotten remote from assigning blame for vehicle injuries. they tremendously plenty go away it to the coverage companies to duke it out among themselves. in case you have coverage your self you moreover mght could desire to document a declare. Nowhere in this tale does it point out in case you have coverage yet i might guess any quantity of money which you do not......
