This was done on the tv show Mythbusters on the Discovery channel. They were able to prove that eating a small amount of poppyseeds would give a positve result on a drug test. Check out the Discovery website and click on Mythbusters tv show and you should be able to find their findings on how much it took and the time table they established

The mythbusters did this, and they found that it was possible to show up, but only at high doses. They ate a lot of them.
If you eat a bagel in the morning before a drug test, you'll be alright. If you each twelve bagel and chase it with a poppyseed cake, you may be in trouble (in more ways than one).

yea; on mythbusters they showed where there is a posibility of the test producing a false positive for opium. But, usually you would have to eat A TON of poppyseeds for it to come up with a high enough concentration. One poppyseed muffin or bagel would probably produce a low concentration that they would probably just retest.

Yep. Happened to my mom. But the concentration is low. Typically, they will just have you take it over again.
My mom ate a poppy seed muffin the morning of her drug test, not thinking about anything. She got the results, with a notice that she had to take another due to signs of a "tainted test". With that low of readings, they know it is not drugs, and they just have you do it again.

It can actually, they tested it on MythBusters and it poses a 50/50 risk of showing a false positive for opium.

You've got your answers but remember that if your boss is looking for an excuse to get rid of you, s/he is not going to worry about a false positive. Any positive will be good enough for dismissal.

It can show up - but rarely does.....unless you eat a BUNCH of 'em..... If it does, they only have to wait for the digestive process to finish it's job and retest.
