No, and it is a pity! If we had more police it would be a lot safer out there!

Its not turning into it is a police state. The common joe public has no rights but criminals do, illegal immigrants do & any one else that that don't pay there taxes. I have lived & worked in many countries & people in the uk are the most oppressed taxed people there are. Just because theres not a tank parked on every street corner does not mean to say its not a police state.
People complain about the state of the uk but you only have yourselves to blame. you voted then in so put up with it or get out as i did & approximatly 34,000 other brits that now live in Turkey having a far better quality of life. thats without the other expats that have moved to other countries.

depends on ur definition of a police state...i mean cameras are everywhere so now you can be criminalised for dropping litter without the need of a policeman...speed cameras everywhere, even someone was reported for throwing a cigarette end out his car window by some judge or magistrate and ended going to court and getting fined, kind of reminiscent of nazi style tactics ie inform on your neighbours and be a good citizen. the uk isnt a police state yet unlike the USA where some police forces have tanks, bazookas, LRAD's to use (on guess who? thats right..you..the person who payes taxes for the police force) the police arent the law they are (supposedly) there to uphold the law, the gov makes the law. Nanny and big brother state yes definitely (getting worse all the time too) but not yet a police state. ps christ i wrote f a g end (above) and it was censored! so i changed it to cigarette end! just proves a point that there is no free speech even on the internet pps loads of internet censorship going on at the moment (google especially) but thats another matter

It's only becoming a police state because people are becoming increasingly incapable of sorting things out for themselves.
Schools are no longer able to enforce discipline, parents are no longer able to and neither are members of public. We're being asked to attend the most stupid of jobs, wth neighbours falling out or dealing with cars parked over other people's drveways.
The youth of this country are becoming out of control, last night there were hordes of them roaming around the town I work in, and only one officer, ME to deal with them all. I confiscated so much drink from them I have a cupboard full of it. Yet when I try and make them behave they just carry on regardless, if I inform their parents they act as if the sun shines out of little Johnny's backside and blame the government.
This country needs sorting out and fast, we need more officers and we need the tools to enforce the law. There was a time when if you had a group of kids playing up, you'd take them a few miles out of town and make them walk home (i'm sure you older members may remember that). It was a quick, effective punishment, they lost a couple of hours of their time and we gave the locals a bit of breathing space. We can't do it anymore, we either arrest or leave them to roam.
This country is going to the dogs, and not because the police have too much power.

UK has always been a police state. What's new?
We are watched 24/7 by the fuzz.
Beware, even the wall have ears.
Your boss spies on you too - so watch what you say in any emails you may send from your place of work. Before you know it a wrong email will be read by the entire world and his dog. Including, 'them', the fuzz, MI5, MI6, CIA and Hoover's mob too.

This country has been turning into another Russia for years.
You almost have to ask permission to blow your nose anymore! You can get arrested for giving your own kids the whipping they deserve! You threaten them only to have them
smile real big and say all they have to do is show whatever marks you leave to their teacher so she can call the cops on you! Also people do not believe in the word work anymore.
These lazy food stamp grabbing, disability liars are the main reason this country is going belly up!
There are some good Russians in this country I know work
harder than most of the people born here so don't think I'm putting Russia down. In fact in my eyes that country was run
better than the US will ever be!

~Shady says "These lazy food stamp grabbing, disability liars are the main reason this country is going belly up!" Do you know that you're talking about people on disability that suffer from mental illnesses, are handicapped, was in the war and are missing limbs and suffering from PTSD, not to mention the elderly? You are very bitter, and get off your high horse, you are no better!
As for the question, I to think the police are taking over everywhere.~

Not in the technical sense -- e.g. there are presently no military vehicles blocking roadways or requiring ID like they do in Iraq.
However:
Yes, we are inching closer towards a police state where our freedoms are increasingly restricted. And it is very sad to see. Do you think that the Founding Fathers of this country would approve of present day society?
Nope.

Oh God, you are going to get answers saying yes and moaning about the "Nanny State" and others saying no, and complaining about young people with no respect etc etc. It's an unanswerable question because it is down to an induviduals opinion.
Personally, I'd like to see more Police around, and more respect shown to authority, not the other way round.
