I have no criminal record, but anytime I encounter a police they are rude, cocky, and act like they are above us all. Don't they know that friendship and careing would do more to earn the publics respect?

I'm affiliated with a small town police department and they are pretty lacking on some important things. I've thought of taking a grant writing class to see if I could help them out the only problem is the City Manager would reject anything because he doesn't like our police department. Is there any way i could avoid going through him to get grants for the pd?

I posted this before but I didn't get many answers (3 to be exact). I'm looking for an explination that is somewhat lengthy and can explain in whole, more of a textbook type answer, if possible, if not, any type of explination would work. LOL
I'm working on the subject of Police discretion in my Corrections in America class this week. The topic is Police discretion. There isn't much information in the text, so I was hoping to get a few answers from a few officers or other people in the CRJ field.

My main question is what exactly is meant by police discretion? (what does police discretion mean--I know what discretion means, but I am assuming actual "police" discretion is a bit different in its own--and what does police discretion involve?) How does the pratice of discretion by todays officers affect your department and the policing profession as a whole?

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Did you see the video? Tipical police work. What a big pussy, to beat a woman, this policeman might lose his job. I heard nothing about his arrest . This guy should be hunted down by the public and have his *** kicked.

What steps do you recommend we take to prepare him for this line of work?

My friends brother recently got obtained by the police for allegedly holding up a gas station. He was walking home really late at night night and the cops informed him that the gas station that he had passed on his route had been robbed. Since he was the only one remotely in the area the cops booked him without really questioning him. He sat in jail for 6 months awaiting trial, finally when his court date came around the DA offered him "time served plus 2 years probation " which he denied because of his innocence. He was a quited of all charges and set free a couple weeks ago. Now he is suing orange county because not only did he sit in jail for 6 months but the the police and the DA both refused to look at the video tapes from the gas station because "they didn't have time". So basically he was booked under assumption not facts. I have no faith in our law enforcement or our judicial system. Just imagine sitting in a cell rotting under false pretenses.

I believe that all police vehicles should have dash board cameras. Dash board cameras are hard evidence which can be used in court. The police should have everything they need to establish hard evidence. I saw on "Cops" where a women had accused a police officer of sexual harassment, the officer had a dash board camera, the camera showed that no harassment was evident. They arrested the woman for filing a false police report. This is case-and-point that dash board cameras help police officers.

There is an incident in NYC where police officers are being indited for manslaughter. I am wondreing why none of the responding police officers had dash board cameras? Wouldn't dash board cameras have shown what happened on the day in question? Instead we now have to go on individual statements, which may not be 100% accurate. Do you think all police vehicles should have dash board cameras?

I live in a small town on the outter edge of Kansas and while it has always been peaceful and calm, there has always been underlying problems that have been kept quiet such as the extensive drug abusers and sellers, the break-ins, the robberies, etc. As of lately though, the criminals have been getting bolder and no longer care about being covert. They've robbed Domino's, a gas stations, the movie theatre, a jewelry store, and a Subway TWICE in the same week. This has all been in a span of two or less months.
My question is this: How can I help or raise awareness in the community? How can I get people to start caring and start defending their town? The police are trying to do their part, but everyone is being so helpless and I know there's something we can do... I just don't know what. Things will only get worse as we live right outside of a metropolitan area and the slime that lives there is slowly leaking into our peaceful town.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

The drugs/alcohol are out of control. He drives/drunk or high and avoids getting caught. He dissappears for days. He never pays taxes. He uses the Emergency Room as a doctors office and never pays the bill. He refuses drug treatment voluntarily. I am at the end of my rope. I want to see him stopped, but not go to jail. I want to see him court ordered into an inpatient rehab center, where he can get some help. How can I alert the authorities, so they can find him drunk driving or in posession of drugs, and know that the judge will NOT put him in jail, but order mandatory rehab?? I'll even pay for the rehab if it isn't too expensive. But, I need the court order to make sure he stays for the entire period. If he doesn't, then the judge can throw him in jail. Who do I contact at the state, county or township level to ASK for the Rehab sentence ahead of time??
My son is 25 y/o.

My best friends husband was sentenced to an 18 month sentence, 9 months in our local County Jail, 9 months suspended. We are in New Mexico. She and I have searched most of the day for info on whether or not he has to do the full 9 months in County, OR if he qualifies for the "good time" credits.

He is a non-violent offender, and is participating in the work release program, and has had no problems so far.

Can anyone help me with finding out if the sentence is the full 9 months, or if "good time" applies? Thanks in advance!
