When something appears ( usually by email or IM ) that isn't welcomed ...like a nude photo or a link to a porn site. Something that isn't usually asked for,but will appear anyway.

Its also good to never correspond ( with personal information) in these unsecure situations, erase your temp files and cookies. ( so they aren't monitored by anyone.)

I would think an online sex offense is when an adult goes online and finds minors to try to coherce them to meet and commit sexual acts on/with them or even inappropriate sexualy charged conversations with a minor on an IM or through email. We need to watch our kid's when they are online and/or go online and check up on them on the popluar sites to see how they are putting themselves out there for anyone to see. It is important to have open communication with your kids but if they are not willing to cooperate then you must do whatever it takes to find out who they are talking to and what they have been doing online (it's hard but totally possible)

i'm guessing it's a pedophile who tries to meet kids online for sex, like what you see on dateline "to catch a predator".
an obvious way to prevent this, is for parents to monitor what sites their kids visit. and if they allow them to go to chat rooms or use instant messenger, who they talk to and what they talk about!!
