I have no criminal record, but anytime I encounter a police they are rude, cocky, and act like they are above us all. Don't they know that friendship and careing would do more to earn the publics respect?

99% of police officers are good people and do set good examples. Every profession has bad apples, and that's what the media shows you, that other 1%.

Do you really expect a police officer to be your friend as soon as they see or meet with you? They have no idea who you are or what your intentions are. If they let their guard down and befriended everyone they ran into, there woud be alot more killed and injured police officers. They act in accordance to what keeps them safe. Being confident and acting that way is part of what keeps them alive and alert.

Don't confuse confidence and good policing ability with ego and rudeness.

Like most people in Government they went into there job’s not as a public servant but for the guaranteed benefits, and guaranteed employment for life, not to make the world a better place. As for the Cop’s they were probably the school bully who is without higher formal education, and did not get any kind of record, so they so into the police and now they can push the entire public around at will and collect money for the government through tickets., and fines.

Most likely they have a secret hatred for certain members for the public that is why the dish-out their abuse at will.

Friendship and caring get you dead.

There is still no excuse for rudeness but I have to wonder why you are having these encounters with the police to begin with. I can imagine that if they catch you doing something that to them is silly or stupid or juvenile or if you have taunted them or have an attitude of "can't touch this" that they may be giving it back to you.

But that opinion and $1.29 will get you the small coffee at McD's.

An idea: does your municipality have a police ride-along program. If you could go with them to see what they deal with during a shift it might help you understand them more. Won't help with the rude officers if they really are rude but might help you understand where they are coming from.

You sound like you are a rebel or something, sounds like you give off some attitude to the cops when they stop you, why don't you first, change what ever you are doing that gets you stopped, and second, knock that chip off your shoulder when the cop talks to you.
I know it isn't right to be rude to someone, but people react to bad attitude's.

Define example. If I act like your example, I would go to jail with you. I usually reciprocate the example/attitude I am given by the people I deal with. You set a good example and I will be there with you.

No matter how I act, Johnny Sh!tbag will still be breaking the law. When I catch him he will give me extreme attitude about how he is innocent and I should go fight real crime. I will give attitude back and (by example) show him all about fighting crime.

The power/authority has gone to their heads, and they believe they are above the law.
