FOUR years ago i ran my SBC phone bill up to $720. i was young and naive.I didnt had money to pay so they disconnected the service.Last week i received certified letter from court being sued by ASSET ACCEPTANCE COLLECTION COMPANY for that amount and they were collecting for SBC.The court gave me thirty days to respond if the lawsuit is true or not otherwise they will decide in ASSETS favor.I am confused and dont have any money to pay i go to school fulltime. My two weeks paycheck is $800 and live on my own and pay tuition myself and health insurance.I can barely afford to get by to the next paycheck.Does anybody know what will happen to me if they win the lawsuit?I thought they will just put it in my record but they wont come after my wages,is that likely to happen?I am now trying to rebuild my credit and be a good citizen but these guys are coming after me,any ideas help?

I slipped and fell in a major grocery store in a flooded aisle without proper sign posted, and have long-term disability and pain as a result. The store manager and stock boys who witnessed the accident made false accusations to protect the store. However there were 2 surveilence cameras in each aisle which, I'm positive, captured the accident.
Is it not my right to request this recording and is the defendant not obligated to release this evidence if requested?

According to Forbes, "Per capita, the United States incarcerates approximately seven times more of its citizens than most Western societies. ......'

"The effects of this extend deeply into contemporary U.S. society:

Reintegration problems. Former inmates have difficulty obtaining employment, accessing housing, acquiring educational opportunities and avoiding further criminal activity.

New federal sanctions. However, welfare policy changes in 1996 applied additional sanctions to ex-felons that make it more difficult to avoid re-offending.

Community impact. Since over half of those now in prison have been convicted for non-violent crimes, new sanctions have helped precipitate a self-sustaining downward spiral in many minority communities."

Wouldn't we all be safer & better off with sentencing & parole reforms, improvements for incarcerated mentally ill, and more rehab programs?

I posted before about how to get some of the above compounds. My husband has a prescription for hydrocodone that he didn't fill. I'm in dental school though and don't want to jeopardize my future. Can surprise drug tests run by the university detect these? and is it common for universities to run such tests on professional school students? I can't get my own prescription but I want to see if I have an adverse reaction to the drugs. Suggestions?

It bothers me a little when I see people, mainly white people who have the confederate flag up as if the world would have been better if there was segregation. I don't know why the confederate flag is banned and I think people should protest against it.

I hear them very often in my home(in my living room and bedroom), which is a condo in Florida. My eardrums ache almost all the time, because of this daily noise. I hate it where I live, which is why I'm moving away in a couple of years. What are the laws on noise pollution from cars in Florida?

recently while in court with a friend, the judge stated that a crime that he was sentencing at the time was a pet peeve of his.I've always thought that a judge was suppose to be unbiased. The man's attorney didn't seem bothered by this, so I was a little confused.Anyone know if this was legal?

You are a member of a jury. The jury is hearing a child molestation case in which the defendant is accused of a series of molestations in his neighborhood. You have been advised by the judge not to discuss the case with anyone outside the courtroom and especially not to anyone on either side of the case. Going down in the elevator after the fourth day of the trial, you overhear the prosecutor talking to one of the police officers witnesses. They are discussing the fact that the man has a previous arrest for child molestation but that it has not been allowed in by the judge as being to prejudicial to the jury. You were pretty sure the guy was guilty before, but now you definitely believe he is guilty. You also know that if you tell the judge what you have heard, it will probably resuilt in a mistrial. What would you do?

hello, i'm in law school and i am working on a tough question for my assignment. It's about murders and killings..i was a little confused so I just needed opinions..here's the question i'm stuck on:

*A guy enters a party very drunk with a gun in his hand and fires 2 shots in the air. One of the security guards name steve attacks him, trying to get the weapon out of his hand. The drunk guy hits steve with the gun..The other security guard name Paul comes and sees what's going on. In defense of Steve, Paul tries to shoot the drunk guy...but misses... and hits steve instead---killing him instintly..Paul got so enraged he shot the drunk guy 5 times---also killing him instintly . a 14 year old girl standing close by was shot in the arm by a stray bullet

-Is the drunk guy's death first degree murder, second degree murder, manslaughter or self defense?

does paul get charged with killing steve and injuring the young girl?

(state of Florida)My parents have been divorced since 1996 and the house was in both of their names but when they divorced the house was given to my mother by court, they still lived together on and off. My mother now wants to sell the house but my father is against it and says that half of it belongs to him. he claims he spoke to a lawyer and that he said that legally even though they are divorced if they have lived together for the past seven years that half does go to him. I just want to know if this is true and if so the Debt that was acumilated over the years on credit cards (Under mothers credit) due to him being in jail and with unemployment through out the years be his responsibility Too?? He left her with all the payments would he have to pay half if hes going to fight for the house???

The U.S. "owes" a certain amount of money (in the billions) to the U.N. However, I also read that Congress contributes a significant amount of money to the United Nations every year to allow it to continue functioning. Is this true? How much money do we give the U.N. every year not including repayment of debts? If you could include a citation and a website I would be very appreciative.
