I'm kind of... amazed by some of these answers.

It is not illegal to refuse to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance. It is also NOT anti-American.

You have the right, as an America, to protest what you don't believe in or what you think is wrong. If you disagree w. policies that are being made and you feel the best way for you to protest them is to sit during the pledge, then that's what you should do. It doesn't mean you don't love your country. It means you don't blindly follow and THAT is a good thing!

Don't stand! Don't cover your heart! Don't say it! Love your country by protesting! Thomas Jefferson said, "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism".

No, actually in the constitution it says free speech you can stand you can sit. To respect our country you should stand, but according to the supreme law of the land you could take someone to court for forcing you to stand for the pledge of Allegiance

it is not against the law, that is part of the constitutional rights of freedom of action. you have the right to abstain from the pledge and or the national anthem, however it may be sought as ETHICALLY wrong is is NOT legally wrong and if they issue detentions or consequences they can get in big trouble with the law since they are violating one of your unalienable rights.

It is not illegal but why not stand up. You are not proud to be an American. I have a son who is just 5 years old, his father is a Marine... Every morning he says the Pledge of Allegiance and has tears while doing it, because he takes pride in what his father does for America. Its respect for your nation to stand.

No, but my school don't say the pledge because of political issues. If you just stood up and said it in Beginning of class. I think it would be alright. Show your patriotism!

No, nor the pledge of allegiance or the playing of the national anthem, though it is accepted by this society as the norm!

There is nothing in the law that I know of, but there might be a school rule you're supposed to follow. Is there a particular reason you object to this, or are you wanting attention?

If you want to sit it out, then thats fine. not against the law, but I remember watching how mad the teachers would get when students didnt stand. I would be one of them, I just laughed at them lol
