There is a City within 20 miles of Atlanta that required it's citizens to own a gun back in the '80s.

Kennesaw had only one murder since and that was a couple passing through at a motel.

Montana is a state in which many people own firearms. After passing a few relaxed gun control laws a few years ago, the murder rate dropped 40% in 2005.

Washington, D.C. has some of the most ridiculous gun bans in the country. You are not allowed to own handguns period. They have one of the highest murder rates per capita in the nation.

Law abiding citizens in Vermont and Alaska do not need a permit to carry handguns. Their crime rates are some of the lowest in the nation.

Although it's not part of the U.S., I have to add this. Every adult male in Switzerland is given a fully automatic firearm by the government to keep in his home. Whens the last time you heard of a rash of Swiss violence?

No! Guns are tools that can be used for whatever reason eg. hunting, self-defence and crime.

It is up to the people to use their weapons responsibly. Crime is more dependent on social factors than the relationship of gun ownern to crimes. Some places in Canada have a lot of guns, but little crime, due to a stable social setting.

Actually, there are a number of U.S. States where many but not most people own guns but there is STILL crime in those States.

Just like in the U.K. where they took the guns away and there is STILL crime involving hand hungs... GUN CONTROL DOES NOT WORK.. but you can't convince the Politicians.
