Does anyone know any specific detail of how I can go about doing that?
To those of you who have been wondering: I don't want my last name because it was my father's and he (and his relatives) did very little (nothing at all) in terms of raising me. So why should I be a walking advertisement of HIS family line?

Andris, like a previous answer said you can do lots of things with your name. A few years ago I heard a story of a guy who added a number into his name maybe you should think about that ;)

It is a cool name! Contact a lawyer to find out if you can loose your last name!

When I worked at a bank, one time I opened an account for someone who identified himself as "Mr. Gemini." I thought it odd until I saw his ID that just said "Mr Gemini." I'm not sure if he had to list "Mr" as his first name when he changed it, though. I guess it depends on the state.
Regardless, what's the big deal? If you don't like your family, forget them and do something about making the name something to be proud of.

You can always apply to the courts for such a change. Whether or not they allow it is up to the judge.

you can change your name to whatever you want as long as your not evading the law, infringing on copy write, obscene, or are making a frivolous request
