I am a US citizen by birth and have lived here all my life. But I have friends who live in Guatemala and I wish to move there. I will be looking to get work and go to school while I am there. I have read the the US MIGHT take my citizenship if I apply for citizenship with another country. From what i have read, Guatemala allows US citizens to stay for 90 days, and then you can renew for another 90 days, but I am looking to stay there for a lot longer than 180 days. Does anyone know what the US will do if i apply and obtain Guatemalan citizenship?

I ask because I hear that a lot of Brits are moving to the US to escape all the immigration problems the UK is facing.

Ironically though, I also hear that a lot of Americans are immigrating to the UK or other European nation to escape the immigration problems the US is facing also.

So it's like, you move away from one country to get away from the immigration crisis, just to end up in another country facing the same type of problem just in a different place and dealing with different illegal immigrants but who cause the same problems nonetheless (not assimilating, refusing to learn English, leechng off the system, having more kids than they can count, calling anyone who opposes their actions 'racist', etc.)

Again, I don't know if all of this is completely accurate, it's just the things I've been hearing lately.

Now that the debate over illegal immigration is heating up again, I believe it’s time for someone to say what others may be afraid to for fear of being labeled racist.

I am sick and tired of being made to feel guilty because I am of white European heritage. We have just as much of an obligation to preserve our heritage for our children as does any illegal immigrant.

It’s time that we let potential immigrants know that we speak English here and America has laws that everyone must abide by. We should not have to bend over backward to adapt to another culture; they need to adapt to ours. If these issues are impossible for you to deal with, then by all means return to your homeland.

Americans also need to wake up to the real cost of illegal immigration. Here are some facts from the Government Accountability Office as well as Census Bureau data: In 2005, the G.A.O. looked at 55,000 illegals with criminal records and found they had been arrested an average of eight times. Forty-five percent were for immigration and drug charges while 12 percent were for violent crimes. Illegals represent 3 percent of the U.S. population while they make up 4.5 percent of the U.S. prison population. This goes to show that we have no idea who is coming across our borders when immigration is not controlled.

The Census Bureau in 2002 found that households of illegal immigrants paid $16 billion in taxes yet imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs to the federal government. That’s a deficit of almost $10.4 billion. Guess who foots the bill?

They drain our economy by sending millions to their homeland. They will not sign up for military service, either. They are here to take advantage of our system and that’s all.

More punishment needed

I need to write a poem/song about the journey of an Irishman from Ireland to America during the Industrial Revolution, and I don't know where to begin. If someone could tell me a little about what that journey might have been like, I'd be very greatful!

would take patrons' orders in English, speak to patrons in English and then turn around and speak to each other in a foreign language. This was done over and over in the middle of a crowded resraunt.
I understood the language, nothing wrong was said but others around me were a bit upset and had opinions that ranged from, "what are they saying to each other ...is it about us?" to "why do these people speak to us in Our language and then to each other, apparently in their own language? It makes me feel like they are discriminating against those of us who are partrons." Several of our group did not want to tip these people as they felt disrespected.
What do you think/feel about this and how should these employee folks behave. Is their activity appropriate?

The average household income for illegal immigrants is $45,748 nationally.

Does that argument still hold water?

Joe Arpaio "Now he arrests Illegal immigrants. Under a new anti-smuggling state law, Sheriff Joe is the only law enforcement offical, arresting illegal immigrants under the new law. He is building new jails to accommodate them and has 3,000 posse members who are authorized to enforce the law." So how come Joe can do what is mostly insurmountable for the better part of the U.S. politicians? You gotta love SHERIFF JOE. I say give Sheriff Joe the job to clear out the illegal immigrants it will cost us next to nothing and he will get the job done. GO JOE! check his video on the link for his explanation. http://www.fulldisclosure.net/flash/466_Arpaio.php

We are a country of immigrants, and IMO we should allow workers (like gardeners, pasants and builders) from poor countries come to work for some months and then return to their homelands. What do you think? Are we too racist to do this?

I support immigration to a degree. What if an illegal immigrant came in the country from Mexico b/c he had to support his faimly and couldnt afford a VISA at the time, nor could he wait for the time it took to recieve one.
he came here and paid his taxes, good citizen, went and learned English, got his High School diploma and enrolled in a college? Would that upset you or please you?
Im trying to understand everyone's pointof views on immigration. What is it that bothers you?? I hear b/c they down pay taxes, they take advantage of our legal system, they dont speak english, they arent educated.....so what is it that bothers you as an individual?
Thanks for your time!
