The question was not really directed at people who never agreed with that statement in the first place. (I never have)
I just wanted to see if any "pro" could answer the question.....so far none have.

WATSONVILLE — A recent study released by a Washington, D.C. group says the majority of undocumented Mexicans who come to the United States are gainfully employed in Mexico and failure to find work isn't the No. 1 reason they leave.
The study, in which nearly 5,000 Mexicans were given 12-page questionnaires, turns a commonly held notion on its head — namely that many illegal immigrants come to the United States because they can't find work in their own country.
The study was conducted by the Pew Hispanic Center, a nonprofit group whose motto is "Chronicling Latinos diverse experiences in a changing America." JUST ANOTHER BUNCH OF SMOKE BLOWN YOU KNOW WHERE. full article on the link.

Troll Goddess, considering the fact which you specially asked approximately citizenship permit me concentration my answer on that query. that's no longer 5 years of "residing" in the U. S., that's 5 years of residing in the U. S. as a "lawful everlasting resident" (LPR), that's what a eco-friendly Card holder formally is. Even residing in the U. S. with permission, i.e., as a pupil or with a artwork visa does not count variety to fulfill the residency requirement. you will must be a LPR first and then the clock starts ticking. So the 1st step could be to develop into an LPR. apart from the DV-Lottery for which Canadians do no longer qualify, there are 3 techniques to a eco-friendly Card: one million) you are the instant relative of a US citizen. that must be a baby, a extra physically powerful half, or a discern. 2) you're a wealthy person investor. minimum investment is one million million US$ plus 10 new jobs 3) you're a exceptionally qualified expert, frequently somebody with a doctorate degree in a field that's in severe call for in the U. S. and could do what not one of the 310 million US citizens can do. of course it incredibly is the main confusing path. inspite of a Juris D you haven't any longer have been given a raffle by using the employment path, so the two you get wealthy, very wealthy very quickly, or you get married to a US citizen. good success!

Yep. But don't compare that average income to your own. It may be for 8 people, where you own is from you alone.
Regular as clockwork, these folks come here starting jobs like washing dishes, mowing yards, pickin berries and then work their way up to driving trucks, building trade jobs, stock people in stores etc. They take American jobs away from American citizens. Jobs we want and need.
The other side of them working our jobs ...and doing it for less, is that they become rabid consumers of the very products that they themselves make. The corporations that hire these people gain coming and going.
The American citizen LOSES coming and going. NO or less job opportunity, being paid less hourly due to the unfair job competition, competing for limited goods ...and all the while, waiting in longer lines to do so.
It's an insult from every angle, towards Americans and their tax dollars as well as to what they should be protected from by their government through law and order.
It's gotta be stopped.

Tlb, awesome. I know it's a great deal for the employers as they can pay more, actually and not have to deal with health insurance, workerscomp, FICA, unemployment and the likes. Thank yo for this link.
Since that is almost three times as much as my states income level, maybe we should become "illegal". Take care. Merry Christmas.

They do the jobs that American would do, however at a lower wage. That is the problem. These employers know that they can save a few bucks by exploiting the immigrant, legal or not and they will do it just to line their pockets.

On hot days forget it.Mexicans want to work hard for the little money people pay them.Americans rob them if anything.the sh i t y jobs they do
would have to pay a whole lot of $ for anyone else to want to
do it if Mexicans were gone.Mexicans do it for for pennies i feel sorry for them.BTW I'm white!

OK people this is simple there are no jobs legal americans wont do! We are told we are over qualified and want to much money wich means we want far pay for the job we do. NO we are not going to let you pay us $3 instead of $8. As for their "household" income being so much if I had 15 people in a 2 bedroom house I would make that much to!

So why is this not the #1 problem we have. It effects us all. Our lively hoods and we sit back and be politically correct. Along with those hard workers come their illnesses, crime, and a deluge of freebies.
Sorry never held water.

Illegal immigrant labor is just an excuse. Pay the American working man and woman what they deserve. Then see how fast these jobs are filled by U.S. citizens. Why should the extremely wealthy be the only one's to benefit from the American dream?

You are directing the question to liberal elitists who think only jobs that require a liberal university degree can be considered honorable work.
I hope you are not expecting any of them to agree with you.
