To many in gangs, that is their job. A book titled 'Freakonomics' analyzed gang activities from a business standpoint, and found they have many things in common. Not all gangs are thugs wielding guns and selling drugs. While most have that element, many will become business owners, and the funding for those businesses will probably come from some illegal drug or weapons trade within the gang. So why do they do this? Well, it's a networking opportunity. They surely aren't going out to the blue collar world to network, and if they did they most likely wouldn't get as far as they can in gangs. I'm not defending the choice, or saying its better, but it isn't necessarily bad.

The Gang Culture is just one of many subcultures that arise when a small group within a population feels disenfranchised from the main stream. They perceive that it is impossible to enter the mainstream so they invent a sub-stream with its own rules.

Excuse me but I do not like your question. It sounds like your talking for all latinos when that is not the case. There are many of us that have "decent jobs", make good money, and are successful. Why dont you mention other races that are in gangs? Cause its definetly not just Latinos. Sounds like you trying to bring the Latinos down. Why don't you do some research on the accomplishments of the latin community and get back to me. I am a daughter of Salvadorean parents and I never once crossed the path to be in a gang. It all depends in the region. Thank you for your time !

The Hell's Angels are still going strong, but you don't see them on the news because it's all focused on Hispanics these days. And I don't see anybody from Honduras being a member of the Hell's Angels.

If anyone chooses to waste their lives being in gangs then it's because they are misguided.

Why do some Americans get into gangs instead of finding themselves decent jobs? It's just the type of people they are. It's just the bad choices they make.

Because they are usually the poorest. And what does poverty breed? Oh yes, crime. For blacks, whites, and Mexicans alike.

I'm Latina, and I'm not part of a gang -- at least not yet.

It's a poverty/educational/cultural thing -- and it runs across ALL races.

Oh, and I have a decent education and a decent job.

you might want to reword your questions... many different cultures and races have their own gangs that their people join..not just the latinos.
