MYTH
Undocumented immigrants don’t pay taxes or contribute to the U.S. economy, and instead take advantage of social welfare programs.
“Controlling illegal immigration is also an issue of fairness to American taxpayers. Is it fair if people are using public services like schools and roads, but are not paying taxes?”
--Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, May 4, 2006

FACT
The myth of “lazy” immigrants cheating U.S. taxpayers and living off welfare couldn’t be farther from the truth.

According to a 2004 study by the Urban Policy Institute, virtually all undocumented men--96 percent--and 62 percent of undocumented women are in the workforce. According to a March report from the Pew Hispanic Center, of the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S., 7.2 million were employed in March 2005, making up approximately 4.9 percent of the labor force in the U.S.

Overall, immigrants--both documented and undocumented--are a huge boon to the U.S. economy. And as for what’s “fair,” the U.S. government takes far more from undocumented immigrants than it ever gives back.

In 2001, then-Federal Reserve Chair Alan Greenspan testified before Congress that in the state of Illinois alone, "[undocumented] workers pay $547 million in taxes yearly, compared to $238 million in services used"--a net “profit” for Illinois of $309 million. And according to a report in last year’s New York Times, each year, undocumented immigrants pay an estimated $7 billion more than they get from Social Security and $1.5 billion more than they get from Medicare.

The Internal Revenue Service issues “Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers” (ITINs) to allow undocumented workers to pay income taxes. Since 1996, 9.2 million of these numbers have been handed out. According to the Los Angeles Times, last year, 1.2 million people paid taxes using ITINs.

Have you noticed that a majority of the anti-illegals will say that race isn't factor, but when you look at their other questions or answers, words like "beaner" or "sp*c" seem to pop up often?

What's up with that?

What is up with that? It just seems strange?

Study: Immigrants Not Taking Jobs From Americans
By Stephen Ohlemacher, Associated Press 8/17/06

WASHINGTON -- Big increases in immigration since 1990 have not hurt employment prospects for American workers, says a study released Thursday.

http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/mld/ledgerenquirer/business/15270640.htm

More proof that the whole "issue" of immigration is a concious effort of politiicans to use US citizens insecurity about the war and the economy and wrongly direct people's anger toward immigrants.

It's a tried and true method of deflecting blame from the politicians who set these policies onto vulnerable groups who have no representation.

Corporate greed should be illegal, not human beings!!!

Immigration-enforcement proposal to go up for vote

Monica Alonzo-Dunsmoor

PHOENIX - A group that wants to require Phoenix police officers and other city employees to enforce federal immigration laws has now collected enough signatures to put that measure to a public vote as early as November.

Randy Pullen, chairman of Protect Our City, needed 14,844 valid signatures to get the initiative on the ballot. His group turned in 15,052.

There will be a special meeting at 9 a.m. Monday for the City Council to consider whether to put the measure on the Nov. 7 ballot. The meeting will be in the subcommittee room on the 12th floor of City Hall, 200 W. Washington St.

"People throughout the city are frustrated with the effects of illegal immigration," Mayor Phil Gordon said. "And now the residents of Phoenix will have the opportunity to vote."

Jake Jacobsen, president of the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association, said Pullen's proposal is not the answer to the problem of illegal immigration.

Requiring police officers to enforce federal immigration laws would hamper their ability to deal with daily emergencies, Jacobsen said.

Pullen's group initially submitted 21,797 signatures, but the Phoenix City Clerk's office found only 14,160 of those valid.

Follow-up efforts yielded an additional 1,275 signatures. Of those, 892 were valid, which more than made up for the 684-signature shortfall.

Phoenix voters will consider whether police officers and other city employees should act as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and whether Phoenix should "enter into an agreement with the United States Department of Homeland Security to designate police officers as immigration officers qualified to investigate, apprehend and detain aliens."

Pullen, who helped bring Proposition 200 to Arizona, plans to take this initiative to Tucson and Mesa next year.

Proposition 200 is a voter-approved measure that aims to restrict certain public benefits to undocumented immigrants and prevent them from voting.

The deadline is Aug. 24 to submit arguments that appear in election publicity pamphlets in support of or in opposition to the enforcement measure.

CHICAGO (AP) Immigration activists around the country are taking up the cause of a single mother who invoked the ancient principle of sanctuary and took refuge in a Chicago church rather than submit to deportation to Mexico.

Elvira Arellano, 31, was holed up for a second day Wednesday at Aldalberto United Methodist Church with the support of the congregation's pastor. With her was her 7-year-old son, Saul, an American citizen.

Federal officials said there is no right to sanctuary in a church under U.S. law and nothing to prevent them from arresting her. But they would not say exactly what they planned to do, or when.

The protest raised the spectacle of agents barging into a church and dragging her out.

if they don't want the "mexicans" doing their so-called work, calling them freeloaders (when some americans are the freeloaders, too). In my opinion these people (anti-illegals) are just a special case to deal with.

Immigration boss' transfer cheered

Daniel González
The Arizona Republic
Aug. 17, 2006 12:00 AM

The federal official in charge of immigration enforcement for Arizona is being transferred to El Paso, drawing cheers from Gov. Janet Napolitano and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Roberto Medina's arrogant attitude and refusal to cooperate with state and local officials hurt the state at a time when Arizona is struggling to combat a major crime problem with smuggling networks that take advantage of federal policies that funnel illegal immigration traffic through the state, Napolitano and Arpaio said.

"His hostility to state and local law enforcement, coupled with a 'we know better than you' attitude was counter to the mission of his agency and did serious damage to the relations between our state and your department," Napolitano and Arpaio wrote in an Aug. 14 letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. "We are greatly relieved and encouraged that he is being replaced." advertisement

Medina was reluctant to share "even basic" information, and his agency refused to pick up and deport Maricopa County Jail inmates presumed to be in the country illegally after they were convicted or cleared of state smuggling- related felony charges. As a result, sheriff's deputies were forced to transport dozens of presumed undocumented immigrants to the border themselves or release some of them from jail into the community, Arpaio said.

A statement released by ICE said Medina has been selected to oversee the ICE office in El Paso. The transfer will probably not occur for at least six months, spokesman Russell Ahr said. No replacement has been named.

The statement also said Medina spearheaded several initiatives that enhanced cooperation with state and local law enforcement agencies. For example, ICE trained 12 Arizona Department of Corrections Officers to expedite the deportation of undocumented criminals from the state prison system, saving the state over $2.9 million.

The Phoenix office has experienced high turnover since the agency was created in March 2003. Medina, the sixth person to oversee the office, is leaving after less than a year and a half on the job.

The pro-illegals want to report anyone whom they disagree with, typing anything that could be slightly offensive to latinos is now labeled "violent". Stating that you are an anti-illegal or pro-American is offensive to Latinos.

Anti-illegals don't consider immigration an issue of race, but pro-illegals bring up race because they have no other arguement to support breaking US laws. By pro-illegals interjecting race into this debate, they are making their bed, and refusing to lie in it by reporting those who take their race bait.

Any race question in this category (ex. "Why does McDonald's only hire blacks?"), by a pro-illegal report it. Any answer from a pro-illegal that called you gringo, racist, or anything else--report it. Someone who calls you racist for being anti-illegal, is inciting "violence".

Will you report every single pro-illegal that pulls out the race card?
