pops, why shoot anybody? Law enforcement's not about shooting, it's about upholding the law and protecting the public. Shooting's the last resort, there...which is as it should be. If businesses posted more signs saying 'we cannot hire illegals, sorry' of their own volition, that'd carry this ball right over the 'fence' as it were...

Sergio, why did you even bother? I'm not giving you 10 points for repeating your sad rhetoric, no matter how many times you post it. Further, I don't give a tinker's damn for your myths vs. facts, but I will say this:
I support the border fence. A CONTINUOUS border fence. Mexico needs to solve its' own problems instead of people trying to talk their way into the United States. Your country's screwed up, Sergio, DO something about it. You say Mexicans are 'hard working'? Great. Start building schools, roads, and hospitals. Do it IN Mexico. And no, the United States should not be paying for any of it.

People are upset over the illegals that are dying fleeing across our borders. Do these citizens stop to think that they are the ones helping to get them killed, along with President Bush and his amnesty program? (This program that is the antithesis of our terrorists program.)
These people wouldn’t be in these deserts if they weren’t assured of jobs and government intervention. They are not stupid people, contrary to popular belief.
They know there are people that will help them evade the law by calling it their “Christian Duty.” They know they will receive welfare, WIC, housing, medical care, and other government subsidies upon entry. They know someone will hire them since the employers won’t pay a living wage to the American people. They know that they will be protected by the government when they say, “I’m pregnant” because their child is now a US citizen.
Now what do our older and less affluent US citizens know?
They know that they will be turned down for health care unless they are dying. They know that preventative care won’t happen for them. They know that our social security is in trouble yet the government is willing to give it to illegals. They know they have been turned down for SS even when they have needed it most due to medical conditions that make it just about impossible to work. They know they are stuck in dead end, low paying jobs because they can’t pass physicals and the government says, “You have a job so you don’t need help.”
Both sides know a lot and it’s causing hard feelings that at some point will cause deaths in the streets and not just during crossings. Feelings will intensify when the old and needy have had just one too many deaths of their friends because they couldn’t get help before a crisis took them.
We haven’t properly screened illegals for diseases. We now have diseases coming back into the schools that we had thought eradicated. Our children are in danger since several of these diseases are antibiotic resistant.
We haven’t run background checks to see if we have felons crossing. Many of the illegals in our prison systems were violent from the start. People want to give them a chance without thinking of US citizens’ safety.
Now we’ve had another terrorist threat that could have happened on our borders instead of coming out of the U.K. toward the U.S. borders. If this had happened on our borders, someone would have given the terrorist water, food, and directed them to the nearest government agency to get their SS and housing.
I have friends from other countries. I love them all. They care enough for themselves and us to go through legal channels. They know that it is in the best interest of this country, its citizens, and themselves to stop disease, violence, and bigotry at the border.
My foreign friends will tell you, “Show your respect for this country, its citizens, and us, its new found friends.”

For the time being-- no it doesn't look like it.
The new system, states are introducting have too much of a time limit. They should be enforced PRONTO!! --Not 7 months down the road...
7 months down the road gives all the illegals a place to move and adapt to.
If we set laws.. to enforce the laws already in place, those laws must go in effect within 24 hours-- or else, like I said, people will just congregate elsewhere and continue to feed off the system, furthermore, putting the burder on the neighboring state. Unless of course, all states enforce it.

Some but not enough. They're still coming over in droves.
If you want to help stop the illegals, why not join GrassFire.org. They are the group responsible for the STOP THE INVASION billboards. If you go to their site you will find polls and best of all petitions that you can sign. They forward these petitions on to congress. Our representatives might not be reading this site but I think they pay attention to petitions, especially when thousands of voters have signed them. It doesn't cost anything to join and they keep you updated by email on what's going on in the government about the illegal issue.

MYTH
Undocumented immigrants don’t pay taxes or contribute to the U.S. economy, and instead take advantage of social welfare programs.
“Controlling illegal immigration is also an issue of fairness to American taxpayers. Is it fair if people are using public services like schools and roads, but are not paying taxes?”
--Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, May 4, 2006
FACT
The myth of “lazy” immigrants cheating U.S. taxpayers and living off welfare couldn’t be farther from the truth.
According to a 2004 study by the Urban Policy Institute, virtually all undocumented men--96 percent--and 62 percent of undocumented women are in the workforce. According to a March report from the Pew Hispanic Center, of the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S., 7.2 million were employed in March 2005, making up approximately 4.9 percent of the labor force in the U.S.
Overall, immigrants--both documented and undocumented--are a huge boon to the U.S. economy. And as for what’s “fair,” the U.S. government takes far more from undocumented immigrants than it ever gives back.
In 2001, then-Federal Reserve Chair Alan Greenspan testified before Congress that in the state of Illinois alone, "[undocumented] workers pay $547 million in taxes yearly, compared to $238 million in services used"--a net “profit” for Illinois of $309 million. And according to a report in last year’s New York Times, each year, undocumented immigrants pay an estimated $7 billion more than they get from Social Security and $1.5 billion more than they get from Medicare.
The Internal Revenue Service issues “Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers” (ITINs) to allow undocumented workers to pay income taxes. Since 1996, 9.2 million of these numbers have been handed out. According to the Los Angeles Times, last year, 1.2 million people paid taxes using ITINs.
