Could you put your views aside and go to the movies, or lunch together? Think Pancha and SealRBorders, or Sqwirlsgirl and Hate Sqwilrls could?

I just feel that my beliefs about this subject are so strong that I would risk insulting my husband ( a permanent resident from Mexico that feels as strongly about illegal immigration as I do) by bringing someone home that might say something rude about our illegal friends. I suppose that there are people out there that are not so passionate about their beliefs on the subject, that I could get along with at the workplace or something.

Ariadne, I said "save the racial slurs for the klan meetings" if you are not using racial slurs then the statement does not apply to you, if you are, then I dont want to be your friend either!

Yes.. I do it all the time. My physical therapist is pro-- we debate all the time. But, if one of us get's upset, we'll toss it aside, and talk about family.
Friendship is much more stronger than a certain view.. However, being a patriot of something you've fought for is mighty up there...
Look at it this way-- She's helping me out-- no doubt it's her job, but she could find me another if it got out of hand.
Yes, it's possible, and is frequently practiced I'm sure.
Tell me this, just because your mother or father sees things differently (speaking of politics)-- is there any of a reason to not love them anymore?
No.. that'd be dumb!

It's just like anything else. For example, I am extremely left-wing and I have some conservative friends. We know and have enough sense to not touch "hot topics" when we are together and we do just fine. Some people here for the most part, are hiding behind the computer screen, spewing nonsensical garbage while others do have some good points. I seriously doubt if you were to meet face to face with them, they would be so hateful. I'm sure Me,you,Pancha, JD, Hayleylov, and all the gang would have lots of fun partying together as long as we were careful not to bring that dreaded subject (immigration) into the conversation.

I can't answer for the others, but i PERSONALLY, would have NO problem with that!!! I don't have anything against these people, they have a right to their opinion, even if it's DIFFERENT from mine!!!
Heck, i have friends who are pro-illegal, but it makes no difference, because we are great friends, we even talk about the immigration issue. But if the discussion gets heated, we have agreed to drop it!!! We would rather remain friends, than win an argument!!!! We agree to disagree.
Hey Pancha, want to go to a movie??? I'll buy the popcorn!!!!

I AM friends with some people who agree with the pro illegal side. We have different opinions, that's all. We can always talk about something else. I think it would be immature of me not to accept a friendship that they offer me. You can never have enough friends. There are some people who I have gotten into a bitter debate with but we are still friends. I still care for them as a person. Does that surprise you? You can go to my old 360 page and see several people who post here who is on the same side as you are but I still like them as people. Just because they disagree with you, doesn't make them bad people.

Not only friends BUT married to the opposition. My husband is the biggest Anti-illegal, gung ho, shoot em when they cross supporter there is. If he could hold a Minuteman rally RIGHT now he would drop what he was doing buy a keg and play "GOD bless America" on the stereo.
That being said...........he respects my views
and not too many people HERE have much respect for a "different view" so I doubt we would be friends. Oh and Sqwirlhater.....I think he is too young to be my friend, he could come over and play in the pool with my daughter and her friends though.

absolutely i have several friends that are bleeding hearts for the Illegals we do things together often and usually spend some time trying to convince each other that our side is correct of course most of the ppl i know that are pro illegals can't really come up with a good reason why we should allow a mass flood of uneducated ppl into our country without so much as a physical & health screenng and without any job lined up and without any kind of record as to who they are and what they are coming here for...infact im going to go ask that question right now.

I have many friends with which we argue over issues with immigration, I have worked with people who oppose illegal immigration yet work in a holding facility operated under The Office Of Refugee And Resettlement grants. So yes I can be close to them we just agree to disagree.

I could never be friends with someone who likes to label people racist for passionately supporting the law. Take you for example, who goes around telling black people that they are part of the KKK for anti-illegal immigrant views. That is beyond offensive. So the answer to your question is - Can I be friends with people who have a difference of opinion? Yes I can, that is anyone but you.

Of course I could. I do not let my beliefs interfere with friendship. Though I may not like many peoples opinions, I will respect them. I have already talked to Sho ban renegade other than on this question board, though we disagree on this subject, I do have high respect for him and we were able to talk very civily.

This a wonderful question; I personally have no problem having Joe serenade me with his guitar! I'll even go to his bible study. Been there, done that.
I would probably call up Tripledigit because underneath all that bravado mischief, he's probably going to sing with the mariachis at the Mexican restaurant where I will take him!
Don't know about Yars, he seems too boring; but I'd still hang out at a party with tons of people where he is one of the other guests! He can bring Sealrborders, but without her laptop computer, please!
Cheers!
