I wont bore you all with excuses, but my wife was heavily pregnant at the time and is in fact due to give birth on the day after I am due to be in court half way across the country. Does anyone know what I am likely to get if I plead guilty by post, and would I be a fool doing so? Many thanks in advance

From what I'm hearing about how the reviewing judge is responding to the revelations about how the original case was (mis)handled, it sure looks like they have a strong case for false imprisonment...or even worse against the prosecution.

Least amount of time you can be at a job and qualify for unemployment...My guess is six months. Am I wrong. This is for Michigan, not sure if that effects it.

Drug tests I can understand, but our company has schedule our entire group for hearing tests. Yes, it's a factory location, but we all work in an office, no excessive noise. One person who has taken it says they make you fill out a detailed questionaire which includes non-job related questions. This seems like an unnecessary invasion of privacy to me. I'm sure that the company is just trying to cover itself in case of lawsuits, etc. Not that they really care about our well-being. Should we refuse, or just give in and take the tests?

an exit plan from Iraq that makes sense. Is there any current candidate running for president that will push for these issues, or are they all so wishy-washy that they refuse to take a stand because they don't want to alienate any voter?

Will any of them ever actually answer a question instead of dancing around trying to avoid taking a stand?

What do you think? Are the current frontrunners as worthless as they appear?

Today's Chicago Tribune had an article about a woman (legal immigrant) who registered to vote, and did vote, even though she is not yet a citizen. ICE is considering deporting her.

Here's the shocker: federal law apparently forbids the registrar from asking for proof of US citizenship! That's right - if someone checks that he/she is a citizen, we take them at face value without even asking if they're sure.

Should this be changed? What's the best way to do so without opening it up to charges of prejudicial treatment?
