1. Safety of the workers (actions of a drugged co-worker might get YOU injured).
2. Safety of the individual (action of a drugged person can injure HIMSELF).
3. Public Safety (example, I want school bus drivers regularly tested--how about airline pilots?)
4. Requirement in some contracts (particularly with Federal Government) -- Drugged out people generally do not provide quality workmanship.
5. Save money on workman's comp insurance (for the company) and disability insurance.

They shouldn't.. What you do in your personal life legal or illegal is none of their business as long as you perform you job in a professional manner and are not harming anyone in the process. Only if you are found to be using drugs during the hours you are employed should this be allowed to be tested for. Your personal life is yours period as long as your personal life doesn't interupt or carry into your business life.

Tell me why anyone feels they have the right to search me, my home or my body even medically for something that they have no right or "probable cause" to search for? To me this is an illegal search "without" probable cause which is protected under the Constitution. This is simply an illegal search and NO ONE has the right to do this without "reason" to believe I am actively using drugs (which i don't BTW)... People need to start standing up for this right even if you are clean, for if we don't, soon we will be seeing a government which can enter your life at any time they want and searching for anything they want without reason or just cause..

Think about it.. drug testing is manditory, so you are assumed GUILTY and have to THEN PROVE your innocents to obtain or keep a job... Isn't this suppose to be the reverse "Innocent until proven Guilty" ??????Again I don't do drugs but I do believe 100% in the Constitution.

The biggest reason I know of why companies do drug testing is to qualify for a reduction in employment compensation insurance (workers comp).

There is only one reason they do it. Their insurance companies demand it. Most people don't realize that Workmans Comp does not pay if you are on drugs or alcohol when injured on the job.

Make sure the CEOs arent being absent minded on the job.

Try to avoid CEO corruption (which is more likely if they are on drugs).

Try to avoid a stock disaster (which happens when CEOs are on drugs).
