Actually two laws are needed. If you make a law against a parent spanking his or her child a law should be made allowing the parent to spank the fools that passed the law preventing spanking.

Some children need to be spanked to get it through thier heads that the world has negative consequences. Many/most kids don't need to be spanked if the parents are skilled communicators. If the parrents are unskilled communicators then they can do just as well with spanking as others can without it. Each parent child relationship is unique and taking away any of the communication tools is not only a bad idea but none of the state's business.

I think the Government is downright interferring. There is a big difference between a spank to get their attention and a beating. A spank they will remember and remember why they got it. Children are already too out of control, this will make it even worse.

I think it's stupid, too. There is nothing wrong with spanking, it is not abuse unless it causes actual injury or leaves bruises or marks. Also, making spanking illegal would mean taking children out of perfectly loving families and putting them in foster care. Being placed in foster care would be much worse than getting a spanking. My parents used to spank me, and believe me, I NEVER would have wanted to be taken away and put in foster care. I can't believe there are so many people who think children would be better off in foster care than with parents who spank. Also, I think a spanking ban would actually increase the rate of child abuse, since C.P.S. would be so busy attending to spanking cases, they may be diverted from cases of REAL abuse and neglect. There are children who are TRULY being abused (such as being brutally beaten, starved, poorly fed or clothed, neglected for hours and hours on end, sexually abused, etc.). C.P.S. may be diverted from cases like that, because they would have to handle spanking cases instead. Also, spanking cases would probably divert the police from legitimate crimes as well. I think that outlawing spanking is pure lunacy.

To make spanking illegal is stupid. It is a simple form of negative reinforcement that does not cause lasting harm to a child. Some people take spanking to extremes, but they probably won't follow the law anyway.

It is very stupid for the government to be intruding into personal family matters like this.

There is no rational reason for the state government to do this. There is no scientific basis for outlawing spanking.

This is such an outrageous attack on the right and freedom to live and raise one's family as one sees fit that everybody should be up in arms about it.

As long as you do not cause brusing or use any objects I am all for it. I wish some kids I run into would get a good spanking.

Beyond stupid - more government interference in our lives. Did you see when one of the legislators was asked if he spanked his own kids he wouldn' t answer!

Just imagine what he might have made of himself if Teddy Kennedy had been spanked!

Perhaps the spanking is what's making them out of control? Who knows.

I'm against spanking, so I think that's fine. Nothing looks more stupid than seeing some ignorant man/woman smacking their kid. Inflicting pain or humiliation should not be used to help a child understand right and wrong.

My sons are 16 and 18. They have never been spanked one time and I have never had problems with them at home, school, church, etc.

TEACH your children - don't threaten them with pain to get them to understand how to act.
