Korea is considered a hardship tour in the Army regardless of where it is in Korea, that is why these tours are only mandatory for a year. These tours are unaccompanied tours for enlisted personnel,i.e. E-1 throughE-9. If he is an Officer then he can have an accompanied tour with his spouse in some parts. If he is in Camp Casey or Hovey then he is not allowed. Some places in Seoul have housing for spouses and some further south near Pusan have them too. You need to get a hold of him and his commander. You need to be asking yourself why he would volunteer to stay in Korea for multiple tours if he's married. Most of the married guys that I knew that stayed because of the ...ahem..."freedom" they had. It is no secret in the Army of the extra-curricular activities of MANY American servicemen in Korea. These are all points that you need to bring up to him.

i dont know for sure about the military sponsoring you....i know in the AF its nearly impossible if hes enlisted to take family there are very few accompanied spots open. i would NOT ever suggest as a military spouse that you go anywhere without command sponsorship........you have to get your own passport, visa (which is typically only good for 90 days as your considered a tourist), pay for your own way over as well as any belongings you wish to take, your on your own as far as getting a place to live (where he probably wont be able to stay with you), a car, a drivers license for over there. You are also not covered under the SOFA if your not sponsored, cant get medical care on base, and he wont get COLA for you either....so basically you need to get a job in korea where you can afford to sustain yourself on your income only...as you and your husband basically still will be maintaining 2 seperate households. do what the majority of wives do and just stay in the US while hes gone.....its only a year it wont kill you i promise.....my husband has had 2 hardship tours plus 4 deployments to iraq during our marriage and were doing just fine. He should get a midtour break (at least i think the army does this too) where he gets to come home for 2 weeks at their expense.....so its really only 2 6 month segments of time away from him.

It depends on his job and duty station. If he's north of Seoul (close to the DMZ) chances are slim, if he's in Seoul or south your chances are better but it still depends on his mos and whether they actually need him there or not, housing availablity, danger to you, etc. He will have to talk to his command and it may take several months to get approved they would also most likely extend him for two more years rather than just one if you are approved as it isn't worth the militaries time or money to get you there for less than that, again though it depends on where he is and what he does.

It is possible however usually sponsored tours are a minimum of 2 years. He is already in Korea? It usually depends the rank of the soldiers as well.

It will depend on your husbands rank, and which part of Korea he's stationed in. 8th Army HQ (Seoul) had some accompanied billets, as well as some other areas in the South.

maybe, maybe not. depends on a ton of factors.. where exactly in Korea he is, whether or not his CoC is willing to sign off on Command sponsorship and whether there is money in the budget for it.

as for going over NCS.. think VERY long and hard.. it is EXPENSIVE, he may NOT be allowed to live with you, and you would be cut off or limited from many on base facilities..such as Medical. and forget it if you get into trouble on the economy.. you WILL be completely at the mercy of the Korean Government, you will have no help from the military.

i am not sure. i have been told that if he is stationed at a base where families can stay the army will pay for you to go but if he is at a base where family cant stay you have to pay your own way over. just ask around i am sure you will find someone whose had their family with them while over there

i am most positive that you can not go. you can maybe go to visit on you dime. but i don't think that you can be stationed over there with him. if he was some where else like Italy or England then yes you would be with him. you, your kids, and your stuff.
