HELP! I am a single mom and was served a subpoena to appear in a court 300+ miles away. I don't drive and have no way to get there. What do I do? I am the defendant.

"This year alone, leaders in Congress are proposing to spend $22 billion more than my budget provides," the president said. "Some of them claim this is not really much of a difference and the scary part is that they seem to mean it." - BUSH

More than any other spending bill, the $606 billion education and health measure defines the differences between Bush and majority Democrats.

Since winning re-election, Bush has sought to cut the labor, health and education measure below the prior year level. But lawmakers have rejected the cuts. The budget that Bush presented in February sought almost $4 billion in cuts to this year's bill.

Democrats responded by adding $10 billion to Bush's request for the 2008 bill. Democrats say spending increases for domestic programs are small compared with Bush's pending war request totaling almost $200 billion.

I wish I had adequate healthcare, I'm 23... but unfortunately all the money I need is going towards a war that is a lie.

Oil prices have risen 60% since last year.

How can Exxon keep making record profits? There is obviously no need for them to raise prices.

Will these prices affect your holiday travels this year?

There have been dozens of questions in Y!A the past few days about John Coleman's comments regarding global warming. Basically he claims the whole thing is a massive scam. Coleman is the founder of The Weather Channel, so people seem to think he's a credible source of information (even though weather is entirely different from climate).

Here is The Weather Channel's official position:

"More than a century's worth of detailed climate observations show a sharp increase in both carbon dioxide and temperature. These observations, together with computer model simulations and historical climate reconstructions from ice cores, ocean sediments and tree rings all provide strong evidence that the majority of the warming over the past century is a result of human activities. This is also the conclusion drawn, nearly unanimously, by climate scientists. Any meaningful debate on the topic amongst climate experts is over."

I mean, really, folks, let me hep ya out here:

1979 - 1982
Unemployment: 8%
Interest Rates: 13%
Mortgages: 18% - 20%
Economy: Stagnant
Political: Malaise (diagnosis of Jimmy Carter)

I've come to assume the following about the folks making most of the noise regarding how really, really terrible things are today; they have no experience with:

1 - terrible times,
2 - history,
3 - comparative analysis, and (yes, that's an AND, not an OR)
4 - independent study.

I find myself asking the following:

1 - If the educational establishment values this thing they call "critical thinking" so much, how come young people can't do it?,
2 - Where have folks' perspective gone (maybe they didn't have it to start with?)?, and
3 - Whatever are these characters going to do and say when hard times actually arrive again? (Scary thought, that one, eh?).

Please skip the George Bush/Iraq War thing for the following reasons:

1 - Presidents come and go, and
2 - We're ALWAYS at war.

I can't imagine what it would be like to fight without being alowed to Win.

I have been observing what Bush tends to favor of late and what he tends to reject. It seems to me that the common denominator is ...if the proposed bill or law is designed to use the tax payers' money to help tax payers here in america, whether we are talking education, infrastructure repair, healthcare, stem cell research,etc... Bush seems to almost always oppose those bills and vetoes them. On the other hand Bush himself also requests funds from tax payers money, and he prefers to use them for things that have nothing to do with using tax payer money on the taxpayers. So that if the moneys will be used by tax payers, you can count that Bush will veto it.

I am now beginning to study politics, but this is what I have gathered so far. Do I have it right?

I've read that it is out of police jurisdiction to arrest illegal aliens unless they are caught in a crime (which escapes my reasoning as my understanding is that being here in the first place is a criminal act) then how does one put jurisdiction within reach of local law enforcement? If I am required to produce identification, proof of insurance and vehicle registration (say, in a traffic collision) then why are illegal aliens not required to produce papers?

your main issues are what a woman does in private with her doctor, what 2 men or women do in their bedrooms, private end-of-life family decisions, and other personal, private things. why do you care about other people's private lives? are your lives so boring that you have to obsess about it? are you just old and mean and grumpy? and i thought conservatives were for smaller government, so why do you want to make all these laws to control our private lives, isn't that more government intrusion?

He volunteers with the police band to play bagpipes during funerals, they asked if he would like to go on a ride along for fun as all volunteers are allowed to if they want to. He is so excited for this, but I am worried about it being dangerous. There have been so many police officers murdered in our city recently and I am so worried something will happen to him. There is no way of getting him not to go, he is determined. Are the ride alongs safe? I wouldnt expect them to put a civilian in danger, but have things like that happened before? Does anyone have experience with the types of things they take you to?

Of college and university entrants:

60% have to take bonehead English, and
45% have to take remedial math courses.

And this is just so that they can be minimally effective doing first-year work!

I was in the store the other day and this bright, attractive young lady was handling the service desk; I'd had a problem at the register so the cashier had sent me over to see her.

Problem: Discount didn't ring up properly.
Further Problem: The young lady didn't have a calculator handy.
The Real Problem: She COULD NOT add up a short column of numbers representing the prices of the items I'd bought. (Doubt she could have done the percentage discount calculation even if she'd gotten that far.)
Solution: Stand there and whine "I can't do math!" I kid you not - she actually uttered those words!
Real Solution: Get the manager, that's what he's there for.

This young lady was a recent graduate of a perfectly fine high school in this area.

WTF is going on in these "schools"?!?
