I believe that we ARE fighting for our freedom, our way of life and our right to engage in international commerce.

IF anything you are are forfeiting your freedom in the name of a perceived threat.
I am not even an American, however I am not allowed to fly over America. Not land, be on a commercial airline that may enter American airspace without the USA having complete disclosure of my background. This actually violated the right to privacy granted by my home nation.
Do you realize that your right to due process is now little more than a novel idea? You can be arrested without charge, pur under surveillance without warrant and have you private information, pulled a scrutinized without a court order. Nothing is sacred. You medical record, your employment history. You no longer own your life.
How does one truly have freedom when they are not even entitled to privacy.
You are not fighting for your freedom over in Iraq, you are signing it away at home.

What's sad is that people gave up rights (patriot act) in order to go to war to fight for their rights.
Now they're setting the stage to do the same thing again, in Iran.
Becoming aware of the lies and manipulations so we don't fall for them again seems quite a simple 'fight' to regain not just our freedom, but the beauty of the world we live in as well.
But will people do it is the clincher :(

That is GOP BULL
just exactly how are the warring factions of Shiites and Sunni in Iraq going to effect anyone in the USA's FREEDOM?
If you actually believe this BS
Then you are not very patriotic or you'd be there in Iraq fighting. But you have SEARCHED YOUR SOUL and seemingly found NO evidence of what you claim, so you stay here.

If the war in Iraq were to be over tomorrow we would not be any safer as a result. There will continue to be threats emanating from Pakistan, from Europe, even from within the US.

Yes. I honestly believe that the war in Iraq has NOTHING to do with our freedom. It is unfortunate that Bush and Fox News has been able to convince so many people otherwise.
Al-Q attacked the US, not Saddam Hussein. Bush's poor decisions have only served to strengthen Iran's position in the region and squander resources. He also did not finish off the Taliban in Afghanistan when they were on the ropes. Bush blew it all.

Any one of any intelligence knows we are fighting for our freedom.
The issue is that they refuse to agree with President Bush. He had an approval rating of 92% in October of 2001. Nothing has changed since then. Some people just dont have the resiliance to withstand the time it takes to complete our mission of riding the world of terrorists and governments who support terrorists.
War is hard on approval ratings. Bush's approval rating now is on par with most war time presidents. No one would argue that we were fighting for our freedom in World War II. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and we went to war. Terrorists attacked the World Trade center and we went to war.
Approval ratings are unkind in time of war but rebound in the history books.

Not at all.
Nor were we fighting for our freedom in 1952 when we toppled Iran's democratically elected government for not being friendly enough to our business interests.
Nor were we fighting for our freedom when we supply money and weapons to dictators in Saudi Arabia in Pakistan.
Nor were we fighting for our freedom in the 1980s when we supplied both sides of the Iran-Iraq war in hopes they would obliterate themselves.
Nor were we fighting for our freedom in the 1990s when we kept Iraq under our thumb with bombings, trade sanctions, and bans of essential supplies for agriculture and sanitation.

Just because your kicking butt overseas doesn't mean you stop and think, boy we haven't given them a chance to land another blow to the US mainland, maybe we should release the captured combatants and see if they can find a nuke to use on us and then I will feel better about waging a war.

The war of choice in Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terror or our freedoms. Bin Laden is still as free as a bird, and the US is bankrupt.
There was no connection between Al Qaida and Iraq.
