When I was in the Marines we were trained to WIN. In 26 counterinsurgent opperations on the DMZ we never once lost a fight.

I can't imagine what it would be like to fight without being alowed to Win.

The Marines in Vietnam faced the same problem and it really hurt the corps, creating all kinds of discipline incidents, racial tension and lots of "fragging".

I don't think the war in Iraq is winnable by military means anyway, so really it must be a source of great frustration to the marines.

The marines are an expeditionary force, meant to be aggressive and take the offense.

This Iraq ******** is a complete misuse of their skills and training.

Obviously you had no involvement in Viet Nam. Talk about not being allowed to win.

But being retired military I am irritated. Not at the military. They did their job. And are still doing it.

It's the politicians and diplomats I'm torqued at. The military did their part is just a few weeks. The politicians and diplomats have cost the US about 1.5 TRILLION dollars and taken over four years and what do THEY have to show?

The diplomats said they couldn't do it. The politicians said go in and take out Saddam. The military did it's job. Now the politicans and diplomats need to step up to the plate and let the military come home.

The only way we won't be allowed to win is if the Democrats manage to pull off their campaign of defeat for America. The greater danger will be a democrat in the White House since (s)he won't want to be the one to "lose" the war, but to appease the anti-wars will cut troops and defense dollars so that we have just enough to be good targets, but not protect. Then once the terrorist pull off another 9-11 on US soil they will act all tough and evaluate the "carbon impact" retaliating would cost.

My son is in his 4th tour in Iraq and he said fighting with one arm tied behind his back is very hard. especially when Americans think the lives of the enemy is much more important than the lives of our soldiers.I am sad as he said he does not think he will live in America when he gets out of the service. he said he does not want to live in a place that worries more about money than lives of our own people.

There is no "win" here. If there is no real enemy, how can we win?
