"This year alone, leaders in Congress are proposing to spend $22 billion more than my budget provides," the president said. "Some of them claim this is not really much of a difference and the scary part is that they seem to mean it." - BUSH

More than any other spending bill, the $606 billion education and health measure defines the differences between Bush and majority Democrats.

Since winning re-election, Bush has sought to cut the labor, health and education measure below the prior year level. But lawmakers have rejected the cuts. The budget that Bush presented in February sought almost $4 billion in cuts to this year's bill.

Democrats responded by adding $10 billion to Bush's request for the 2008 bill. Democrats say spending increases for domestic programs are small compared with Bush's pending war request totaling almost $200 billion.

I wish I had adequate healthcare, I'm 23... but unfortunately all the money I need is going towards a war that is a lie.

I don't want people who are ignorant with random jargon and a blame that has no placement and/or reason.

An awful lot of you seem to be a bit confused about the purpose of the Federal Government. The way this country was founded the Federal Government is supposed to handle, foreign policy, international trade and national defense.

The Federal Government has no business spending any money on education or health care. Those issues are State issues and should be handled by your State Government.

Why do you not have "adequate health care"? The health care in America is second to none. Do you mean health care insurance? If you do not like the level of coverage you have by a supplemental policy. Or if you do not have health care insurance buy some.

You must understand, the Federal Government has no money to spend. Any money they do spend they have to take away from you and me in the first place.

Now follow along this is important. If a dollar of your income is taken by the Federal Government in taxes just gathering that money costs money. So some of your dollar is spent just taking it from you. Then the money must be processed through the various bureaucracies such as the IRS and the Treasury Department. That costs money too. Then Congress gets together and decides how to allocate it. There is a cost there, too. Then the funds must be transferred and that also costs. Then finally that dollar you paid in taxes comes back to you as some sort of service. Depending on what state you live in that could amount to as little as 20 cents of every dollar they take from you.

Now with this in mind, how much more value would you have gotten from that dollar if you had it to spend yourself? That would not be 20 cents it would be the whole dollar.

Multiply this example by the many, many programs that are completely redundant. The result is a net loss. We end up getting nothing back or actually when the Federal Government borrows the money to pay for things we also have to absorbe the interest.

The money you need is going for many, many things the Federal Government funds. However, the thing you cite, the war effort, is about the one thing they are supposed to be spending money on.

If you wish to complain about unnecessary spending you should be complaining about all the social programs, grants, and subsidies the Federal Government has no business funding. Not national defense.

WASHINGTON - The economic costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are estimated to total $1.6 trillion — roughly double the amount the White House has requested thus far, according to a new report by Democrats on Congress' Joint Economic Committee.

The report, obtained by The Associated Press and scheduled to be released Tuesday, attempted to put a price tag on the two conflicts, including "hidden" costs such as interest payments on the money borrowed to pay for the wars, lost investment, the expense of long-term health care for injured veterans and the cost of oil market disruptions.

The $1.6 trillion figure, for the period from 2002 to 2008, translates into a cost of $20,900 for a family of four, the report said. The Bush administration has requested $804 billion for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars combined, the report stated.

For the Iraq war only, total economic costs were estimated at $1.3 trillion for the period from 2002 to 2008. That would cost a family of four $16,500, the report said.

Through 2017
Future economic costs would be even greater. The report estimated that both wars would cost $3.5 trillion between 2003 and 2017. Under that scenario, it would cost a family of four $46,400, the report said.

A lot of it is just political posturing, however, there are some underlying fundamental differences.

Protecting the American people from our enemies is a Constitutional mandate of the federal government. Education & health issues are seen as being more appropriately addressed at the state/local level. National efforts have been inconclusive and sometimes downright harmful.

Protecting us from our enemies is a matter of national survival. Education & health are more quality of life issues for individual citizens.

I wish I had any health care, I am 56, and have had a heart attack, so I actually need it, but cannot get it, because I have a pre-existing condition.
I wish that my children were being taught in school, instead of wasting their time, always in a politically correct way, of course.
I wish that my taxes weren't so high that I have to wonder if I can feed my family this week.
I wish that social security was sound, because I am going to need it soon.
I wish that the national debt wasn't going to guarantee that my children will not have any security for their children.
I wish the welfare programs in this country didn't encourage my children to have children out of wedlock.
I wish I could walk down state street in Chicago at Christmas time and look at all the decorations with the sense of wonder that was still allowed with regard to religious holidays.
I wish my country still valued, really valued,(not just spouting platitudes) the contribution that soldiers have made to the quality of our lives.
I wish that the people we have elected to office felt any need to live up to our expectations that they be honorable and have integrity.
I wish that the government would let me decide how to spend my money.
I wish that the insurance companies and the government would get out of health care alltogether.
We all wish many things, and we might just get them, if we take back our country from the big money interests which have stolen it from us, with the help of many corrupt politicians of both parties.
We need to vote for a man who will restore our Constitution,
Ron Paul

Republicans have traditionally hostile any form of tax or any form of tax advance. they additionally oppose minimum salary will advance and beyond time-honored time pay. they do no longer prefer to vote for any form of everyday well-being care. i'm speaking with regard to the politicians no longer basic daily working Republicans. They consistently advance their pay at the two state and national point. they have unfastened well-being care. they have unfastened transportation. And in simple terms about all those, "unfastened issues," are funded by ability of taxes. And that's in simple terms in my state. are you able to think of what is going on in the different 40 9. At one time the Republican social gathering replaced into the social gathering of the undemanding working guy. From Lincoln to Teddy Roosevelt the Republican social gathering fought racism, the enormous business trusts and unlawful working situations such as infant hard artwork and sweat shops. It replaced into the Democrats that supported the trusts and under suited woking conditons. someplace alongside the time continuum they switched. in spite of the shown fact that, now it particularly is no longer ordinary to tell which social gathering helps what situation. Now the undertaking is partisanship; there is not any provide and take. each social gathering is out for its own time table and there is now no longer room for compromise. anybody looses.

Get a job and earn the money for your insurance. As you have stated we are spending too much and you wish to spend upwards of 3 trillion dollars nationalizing healthcare. You liberals a choice. You complain about spending when the money is'nt coming to you personally.

Nearly all of the tax money is wasted by the government. If we were taxed less we could save for retirement (no need for social security) and could afford healthcare.

The Republicans will tell you to get a job, join the army, or any other way they can patronize your situation. They are only concerned about themselves....just look at the answers given!

It's very sad that we can spend on every other country but here.

EDIT: The answer is not known. This country is divided in a way that is new to everyone, including politicians. My best guess is the right does not want to pass anymore legislation concerning an increase in public assistance because of the way that Welfare has spun out of control.

This is an easy one. You are a Liberal which means you can't take care of yourself and you want the government to take all your money in taxes and tell you how and when to do things.
Get a life.

The average 4 person family in America has already been put in for $20,000 by republicans who started and keep this war going. I think that we should refuse to pay this amount in taxes and force cons to pay it themselves. They can start being fiscally responsible and stop wasting our money!
