The Art of War

A soldier wearily reconnoiters,
Unscopeable defilade blankets him,
A sightline opening unencumbered,
Paratroopers envelop egress outs,
Fire away projectile unstoppable,
Insurgency targeted, faceless foe,
A bullets momentum indiscreetly,
Disemboweling rapidly, swiftly dead,
The escape quietly organizes,
Military discipline orders it.

Hot

The desert calls to no man
Dunes replete with bleached white bones
Endless waves of sand, one color, one sound
Anonymous, nameless expanse
Scorched and blistered rock faces
Seared rage sweltering, holding fire
Motionless specter, sighting
Opportunity, egress clear
JAR triggered,
Directed,
Away…silently

The unions run NY State, and this is how they care about taxpayers. Their rhetoric is SO thick at election time, and they claim to fight for the poor. Actually, by taxing the daylights out of us they drive away business and jobs. They only care about abusing the system, and we constantly hear their sob stories come election time. The problem I have is how the Liberals believe it.

I'm genuinely curious here - what do you do differently or not if there is no global warming or if humans have no impact on it?

Please refrain from snarky "liberal" or "conservative" quips.

Refrain from pre-packaged opinions from any source - simply tell me about what YOU think - not what Rush or Greenpeace thinks.

Talk about yourself - not what evils "those other people" will do.

ATLANTA - An Atlanta megachurch took in $69 million in 2006, according to a financial statement the church's minister released in response to a Senate investigation into him and five other well-known televangelists.

The Rev. Creflo Dollar disclosed the World Changers Church International's financial information to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, but said the money he spends is his own.

Dollar said his income comes from personal investments, including businesses and real estate ventures. But the church gave him a Rolls Royce, which he mainly uses for special occasions, he said.

Chaplains on a wall
TD Euwaite

Lieutenant Capodanno
Chaplain, U.S. Navy
Repeatedly…
Ran toward enemy fire
Dragging Marines to safety
Many wounds, arms, legs, face
Mortar round blew off a hand
Again he ran, this time
To a Corpsman on the ground,
Heavy machine gun rounds
Cut him down

Major Watters
Chaplain, 173rd Airborne Brigade
After the perimeter was pulled back
Three times he stepped over the wire
Through friendly and unfriendly fire
Brought solders back, on his back
Fell while aiding the wounded

There’s a long, low wall in Washington
Many named there
Passed to the next life
While holding the hands of these
When you go, passing slowly
Whisper low and softly
Thank you

Some conservatives on this board keep suggesting that those who believe the scientific consensus behind anthropogenic global warming are all liberals. But all these Republicans have said it's real and it's dangerous.

So are all these people liberals?

Why do so many conservatives deny that the leaders of their own party agree with Al Gore and the scientists on this issue?

World Class climatoligist Richard Lindzen of MIT:

"His position with regard to the IPCC can be summed up with this quotation: "Picking holes in the IPCC is crucial. The notion that if you’re ignorant of something and somebody comes up with a wrong answer, and you have to accept that because you don’t have another wrong answer to offer is like faith healing, it’s like quackery in medicine – if somebody says you should take jelly beans for cancer and you say that’s stupid, and he says, well can you suggest something else and you say, no, does that mean you have to go with jelly beans?"[7]

Lindzen was one of several scientists who appeared in The Great Global Warming Swindle, a documentary that aired in the UK in March, 2007 on Channel Four. The film was critical of the IPCC and many scientific opinions on climate change.

Prince Harry is alleged to be upset that he wasn't allowed to fight in Afghanistan. I wonder, firstly, if he realised this isn't like the street brawls with photographers but he could actually get killed. Aside from this, what I'd like to ask is how he seems to get so much leave from the Army. And also, do they really pay that well that 'officers' such as him can afford to spend so much on one night's boozing, 24 hours boozing sessions, every night in a nightclub? If he were allowed to join the real soldiers out there, would they find a nightclub for him? I believe that all this bravado he shows about wanting to go out there to fight is all a front. He knows full well that this would never be allowed, and no matter how many times he says he wants to go, he is fully aware that he is never going to be at risk. My question is mainly about the amount of leave and the pay, but please comment on the other parts if you wish.

Separation of powers?
Hi, can you please help me; I've got an essay to write. It’s composed of 3 parts: introduction, argumentation and conclusion (french college system). Now, in the introduction, I have to announce my argumentation which has to be composed of 2 parts. What do you think should be my 2 parts? They actually depend on the question I have to write in the introduction which is like a guide, and the essay is to give an answer to that question. What do you think should be my question (problematique)?
As you have already seen, my subject is: separation of powers...
Thanks!

I'm considering joining a branch after I graduate with my Bachelor's degree. I'm hung up between joining the Navy or the Coast Guard.

My reasons for joining of course include things like serving my country, an opportunity to travel, and gaining confidence...but I also have to look at the financial and career benefits as well.

I know the Navy will pay back my federal student loans...but will the Coast Guard?

I'd like to go into law enforcement (which is what my degree is for), so which one is more likely to get me there?

Thanks!
