My father had countersigned £3000 worth of travellers cheques which I found in his cupoard after his death. He had signed it twice and not cashed it bizarrely..maybe he didnt fully understand the rules.

Anyway, I, as his daughter am executer in the WILL he left and he has left everything to me..

Should i take the death certificate, will and travellers cheques to the bank so they can cash it for me??

Someone said i may need a grant of probate..is that true and how do i get one??

Thank you in advance.

Request the court to have the will probated so that the estate of your father will be distributed to the heirs named in the will.

With the kind of situation you are describing, you really need to contact an Attorney. You will probably only be able to cash those checks if you have been appointed by the court as the Executrix of his will. This can be done by filing the will with the probate court where your father lived before he passed away. Are there any other assets? Real Esate, vehicles, etc.? All of these things must pass to the person who is entitled to them based on what the will says. Your father would have set out who he wants to get all of his personal and real property. So my advice is to contact an Attorney because even if you go the court house and pick up the documents you need, by law the clerk there cannot assist you in filling them out. Chances are the complexities of the matter will get too difficult and something will not be done correctly.

You consult a solicitor who will get one for you.

If the bank simply cashes them for you, you won't need one.
