My parents live in a relatively small city -- about 25,000 people. There is a small independent telephone company which dominates the city -- for some reason no other carriers can offer service in this city? Anyways, what it boils down to is absolutely monopolistic prices on basic services like Internet access. This independent telephone company keeps buying out all the startup Internet companies so consumers have no other choice but to use the telephone company's internet service. My parents are paying $20/month for a dialup account -- DSL (750k/750k yuck!) is available for three months at a price of $25/month each month, then it jumps back to the normal price of $80/month. It's freaking ridiculous. The cities about 10 miles away are serviced by large scale companies (AT&T, MCI) which offer DSL (3.0M/896k) for $25/month. What can they do about this monoploy? It's 2007 -- $20/month for dialup or $80/month for slow DSL is ridiculous!

every year, when the Royals come out wearing more medals than the ones who actually fought in the wars. If tomorrow I see the likes of Prince William ( Noted for heroism for shooting deer at Balmoral, whilst being protected by the SAS) and Prince Harry ( Noted for shooting two rare birds at Sandringham) come out stacked with medals like their dad, who couldnt steer a boat out of the harbour, or fly a plane on his own, then as my father used to say, scrap this farce and let people just remember the dead in our own way.

I have been watching "Disorderly Conduct", a TV Show which focuses mostly on police chases. I have never seen one take place, but they somehow get enough clips to make a show out of it. I was just wondering if police chases happened a lot or on just a rare occasion.

Thanks

The latest Liberal party ads go on about interest rates under Whitlam, Hawke and Keating. There were some Liberal Party leaders during this time so can anyone tell me how the interest rates faired when they were in charge of the economy???

For so long the Liberal Party have been touting how interest rates would be higher under a Labor Government. With the latest interest rate rises John and Co. have been quick to point out that they have no control over interest rates.

If that's the case, what has the interest rate debate really all been about?? No one seems able to really control it and if John and Co are correct we are all headed for a drubbing on rate rises because of the market in the U.S. and oil prices.

I wonder, if/when Kevin Rudd and the Labor party get in will the then opposition keep their mouths shut when interest rates rise due to this flow on of the U.S. prime market and oil???

In a word, NO. They'll suddenly forget all that's been said in the campaign and go for the th

As it is, both parties are pumping more money into the pockets of voters which can only mean that they, supposedly, will have more money to spend which in turn will only serve to increase the economy and interest rates more.

Answer: The industrial output of the United States.

Why then, given the obvious importance of domestic industry to national security, have we sold our industrial might to China?

I think the USA will win it hands down. This of course is not to say that this is going to be a good thing, only that America will be the one who comes out "victorious".

What say you?

Well...I've thus far conducted an unsuccessful IT job hunt. Traces back to June 2006.
-4 years military(network engineering)
-AA Degree
-Multiple Certifications
Many Hands on Classes Cisco/Windows
-In the begining...I missed one crucial opening coz of greedy..
"Recruiting Company Tactics"...Nailed interview...they negotiated much lesser pay for less qualified candidate without my knowledge and that slipped..
-6-7 month break to recoup transportation and pay bills.
-Back in market 2 months now.
-My competency level is FAR above average but I can't help but feel there is some "racial/cultural" invisible wall to it..S.Calif...amongst other factors
-US born-Africa raised.
-Interviews nailed..interviewers acknowledge as much(up to 80% of the time)..they don't when you suck...
-I realize that at this time my strategies are a vicious circle that has no solution...direct company applications...resume spreading...yadi yada....
-visibly less qualified fellaz no probz hired quick..
