For so long the Liberal Party have been touting how interest rates would be higher under a Labor Government. With the latest interest rate rises John and Co. have been quick to point out that they have no control over interest rates.

If that's the case, what has the interest rate debate really all been about?? No one seems able to really control it and if John and Co are correct we are all headed for a drubbing on rate rises because of the market in the U.S. and oil prices.

I wonder, if/when Kevin Rudd and the Labor party get in will the then opposition keep their mouths shut when interest rates rise due to this flow on of the U.S. prime market and oil???

In a word, NO. They'll suddenly forget all that's been said in the campaign and go for the th

As it is, both parties are pumping more money into the pockets of voters which can only mean that they, supposedly, will have more money to spend which in turn will only serve to increase the economy and interest rates more.

Actually Labor took us out of the recession... and did so in a way to ensure it wouldn't happen again - they broke the boom-bust cycle. The Libs have been sitting around doing nothing for 11 years except to accumulate a meaningless surplus.

When the US economy tanks and our own economy is threatened, the Libs won't know what to do - only Labor has a track record of successful economic reform.

That's the political animal regardless of who's in power and its also democracy, and yes we are headed for another 2 or 3 rises over the next 9 months regardless of who's in power. The U.S. by XMAS will be in recession, our dollar will continue to get stronger as overseas markets continually turn to our strong economy to invest in. A double edged sword, so what do you do if your labour or liberal, I think that hopefully we are strong enough economically to weather the storm over the next few years and the fact is the libs are the one that brought us out of the last recession in the first place and put us in this extraordinary situation. Hoppefully whoever gets in can make the right decissions as world markets have downward presure put on them.
