Apparently, they read it , and never had the good sense to question what they read. Just as they read the Bible and do not have the good sense to question what they read in it!

I'm not sure, maybe it helps some people feel better about eating them. I believe animals have souls and I am vegetarian as a result. We all have to live with our own conscience. :-)

i think of the extra appropriate question could be: the place did religious human beings get the loopy concept that persons have souls and in basic terms some animals have souls? i've got had extremely some conversations with religious persons (Christians) that declare their canine or cat has a soul, yet a mouse does not. Why? when you consider which you have an emotional attachment to a canine and not a mouse? i've got no longer examine the bible front to returned, yet i've got yet to come returned for the time of a passage declaring that animals have not got souls, or that souls are unique to human beings.

Well, part of the religious message is for humankind to take dominion of the earth so by assigning souls to humankind and claiming animals have no souls made the idea (humankind is superior to animals) a little easier to swallow so to speak?

It also allowed humans to kill animals (without guilt) and roast them for dinner?

They probably got that from the part of the Bible about humans being made in God's image but I have no doubt that animals have souls.

Well, human beings are sentient, and animals are not. That might have had something to do with it. Identifying consciousness with a disembodied 'soul' seems to be a common theme in many religions. Of course, some religions /do/ endow animals, or even inanimate objects, with spirits or souls or collective anima of some sort.

I believe they have souls...some are more human-like than others...they curl up next to you, and express fear when danger's around. They protect their young and play together having fun. Some animals seem to have higher intellect than those animals which serve as food for the human race...as do monkeys compared to fish and chicken, for example.

We are animals...do we not have souls? or are souls just our way of describing the phenomenon of our mentation? is the word soul a word that encapsulates the meaning and productivity of our existence?

Its not that hard to think that something you love so much could not have a life beyond the life we know. Take a moment to look into your dogs eyes and tell me there is not something there. God gave us these great gifts for our pleasure and love here on this earth why would he not continue to carry on that love in the next life?

Religions (especially western ones) tend to be very ego-centric. But perhaps that's just human nature.
