I have been on this planet for 57 years.
I have yet to see an economic war.
I have seen many wars fought for nationalistic reasons that resulted in a lot of death.
But never seen or heard of an economic war. There have been a few economic skirmishes, but even those are rare.
Why is that? Because business knows it is bad for business on both sides. Plus, the outcome of any war is rarely what the ones who started it wanted in the end.
Example:
Afghanistan and Iraq were supposed to be well over by now.
If there is an economic war, I have a hunch that the world will back China because so many countries now depend on her.
Keep this in mind:
China sends 21% of their exports to the USA
The USA sends 5.3% to China
If China and the USA had an economic war, that 21% would quickly be made up somewhere else.

nicely first, you won't be able to in basic terms say, who could win a conflict between the two. you may supply greater info. What are they at conflict for ? Did China attempt and invade united statesa. ? Did united statesa. attempt and invade China ? Is the conflict over some third united states ? yet, to place it bluntly. without employing nuclear weapons, China would not have the flexibility to salary conflict against united statesa.. China has no army to chat of, they have not have been given any long selection bombers. So the tens of millions of chinese language squaddies do them little reliable, except somebody trys to invade China. the US does have the flexibility to attack objectives interior China from the US. at an identical time as the US would not have the flexibility to invade China ( no longer and not employing an entire mobilization and deliver construction software ) like for the period of WW ll. To have a conflict, you will be waiting to attack your opponent. subsequently, in basic terms one section has that ability. So how would desire to there be a conflict?

Even with the recent trend in contaminated toys and products from China, the demand for cheaper, mass produced goods will not be swayed. Everyone seems to follow this pattern: If you want a good car go to Japan or Germany, if you want good electronics go to Japan, if you want fruit and grains go to the U.S. and if you want anything else go to China. Unless the U.S. can efficiently and effectively mass produce the same or higher amount of goods AND materials as China, then the U.S. will have to settle as an equal competitor. Or, considering the loans borrowed from our international partners, over extended resouces in every respect, and a downward spiral in demand for American made goods, perhaps the U.S. may have to fight for second against India.

Its not imminent. And why would you think so?
Those who are charged with economic responsibility ensure that it is a, as the other poster said, agreement or cooperation and not a war. An economic war would be stupid and pointless. Prices would plummet, as would wages, as each country tried to "one up" the other, and the ensuing chaos would destroy BOTH economies.
Neither would allow that to happen.

The US relies heavily on China for our cheap clothing and sweatshop-made goods, but the Chinese rely heavily on us for revenue. If we waged economic war I'm sure we'd both be screwed over.

Not any time soon. One hand washes the other and will for a while longer. Look for trouble when the oil REALLY begins to run out.

well, considering they hold $1.5T in US debt and are already talking about converting from dollars to other "stronger" currencies, dramatically lowering the value of the dollar (also the real reason we invaded Iraq)..........they are poised to deal a very strong blow to our economy with the flick of a pen
