I have recently heard that many people around the world consider themselves slaves to the United States. I read a statistic that said the United States has only 5% of the world's population yet they consume 31% of everything consumed in the world. Is the United States using its military and fiscal power to "enslave" the rest of the world to produce more for less. I recently watched a program about Afganistan and that since the Taliban has been removed from power the country's primary means of income has become exporting drugs to western europe and the united states. This is a new idea to me and I'm very interested in hearing your opinions.

I've always had the lifelong dream of saving lives... I cant explain it, but I do. I would love to join the military specifically the Marines or Army and serve several years in combat. However, I'd like to go to college before hand and get a degree in business. My concern is that I'll get distracted with my schoolwork and completely pulled away from my Military desire...

Should I even bother joining the military?

Hi. I just moved to a new state and many ppl here tell me it's a RTW state....what in the heck does that mean?....and, do some states really exist which are NO-Right-to-Work states? The whole thing just sounds so absurd! Please clarify for me. Thanks.

Personality Disorder is a Disease that people are born with or start suffering early in life. But thousands of Troops upon leaving Iraq and the Service are denied Medical Treatment because they are diagnosed with Personality Disorders which are not considered caused by combat trauma. The unfairness is that all Troops are given complete medical examiations when they join the Military. To be accepted in the military means Troop is healthy, period. Being accepted in the Military means that anything that medically happens to a Troop during his or her time in the service is something new, something that did not exist before they joined the Military.
But the Military is denying benefits to Combat Veterans because they had Personality Disorders before they joined the Military. This is not logical, provable, appropriate or even legal in terms of the conditions of services. But, the United States Military is doing this to returning Combat Veterans who after combat have mental health problems.

I am a sophmore in college majoring in History and Russian. I am thinking about joining the Peace Corps after I graduate before heading to grad school. Since I will be fluent in Russian at the time, will they take that into consideration when they place me? Has anyone joined the Peace Corps? What are your impressions? I would like to know more about it from a personal perspective with personal experiences. Thanks so much in advance!

Only the people who can afford to go to post-secondary schools can go which contradicts "everyone has a right to an education".

Our military gets harassed for putting themselves on the line...most people don't have the whatever you want to call it to fight for what's right. It's because of sacrifice that the Pilgrims came here, that we won the Revolution, and World War II. Parents used to sacrifice for their children, but now they discard them...what happened??

It seems to me that the people who disagree with liberals think that we (yes, I'm very liberal) tend to think that liberal = no morals.

I don't think that's true. I consider myself, and a lot of liberals to be free thinkers, people who look at all perspectives of issues, people who try to promote equality, goodness, democracy, free speech, that everyone's voices are heard, and that people are educated on ALL perspectives. How is that a bad thing?

Look at this quote for what Caesar did to the citizens of Rome;

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar." (Julius Caesar)

Any similarities between te two???

Despite a general begrudging acceptance amongst a large swathe of the corporate media that Ron Paul is a real contender for the Republican nomination following the hugely successful November 5th "money bomb" campaign, a CBS News op-ed piece today labels the Texas Congressman a "meaningless" "fruitcake" with "no chance" of winning.

The article is entitled Ron Paul, Fruitcake and its writer, Kevin Drum, attempts to make the point that anyone who even expresses an interest in the Congressman's campaign is a "political infant" who needs to "grow up".

How can it be that we have a law for Cubans to step foot on our soil and they are legal automatically, but we don't have that for anyone else. Now I know Cuba has a horrible president. But Mexico's president isn't the best either. And what about the other countries. Shouldn't we change that law? Or do you think it should stay the same? Please no snide or rude comments. Thankyou for your time.

Mesa, AZ Small Claims Court - Dismissed with Prejudice. I was sued 2 years ago for a disputed amount owed. The plaintiff did not appear on the court date as he had requested a continuance which was subsequently denied. The case was dismissed with prejudice against the plaintiff. He has since turned it over to a collection agency who continues to call and harrass me for payment. The collection company is now threatening legal action against me. Can they do this? What can I do to get them to leave me alone?
