That is great for her!

The first website provides you with party information, candidate details, voting records, public statements and pretty much anything you need to help YOU decide!

It will also show you information about the State Primary Dates, How the Primary Process works, Electoral College, and other internet resources with respect to registration and voting.

I commend all Americans who are trying to learn more about the candidates before the 2008 election. In my opinion, a uniformed voter is down right dangerous.

I am supporting the Republican Ticket for their stance on Foreign Policy.

There isn't any real difference. They are just different groups of special interests that use the government to get money for themselves. For example, the Republicans doubled the size of the Department of Education with No Child Left Behind (the DOE is a department created by Democrats and which Republicans were supposed to be against) and instituted the largest new welfare program in 40 years (Medicare Part D). The Democrats passed the Iraqi Liberation Act which started the Iraq War, though they now blame the Republicans for it because the Republicans merely continued the policy.

They only disagree on minor things, like whether taxes should be slightly lower than the currently high level or slightly higher or whether or not abortion or gay marriage should be legal.

However, there are some members of the 2 parties who genuinely oppose the bipartisan consensus (such as Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul).

She might want to also check out the website of the Green Party of the U.S. and see that she has more than just two choices!
www.gp.org is the place. The Greens are an alternative and the only party that has consistently been against the war and calling for an immediate return of the troops. We are also a values based party and represent a belief in true democracy instead of what passes for it while the other party plays politics with our future.

Have we not learned by now that a person running who has an R , D or I in front of there name at a voting booth, Does any one else learn that it is the person not the party that truly matters. We do not live in a government that I would like to see an R or a D run it alone. Look at history, when one has total power over all three branches of our Government, there is bad corruption in it. We need more check and balances not less.

Tell your daughter as I did get to know all you can before you go vote, then vote for the one you feel will do the best for this country.

Tell your daughter that she just entered the war-zone called Politics.

It seems that both parties are the SAME, only they disagree on petty issues that neither promote change, or really mean anything to a majority of voters.

Issues like Abortion and the Death Penalty

We used to have a two party system, but it has slowly become more like a One party system.

Tell her about Ron Paul ... Tell her that if she doesn't seem to like where EITHER party has taken us, than Ron Paul will bring America a fresh new path to follow.

This path is an American path, because he promotes, and has plans to:

-Pull out of Iraq, and most of our foreign policies.
-Bring back the U.S. dollar, to something we can be proud of.
-Get rid of our HUGE and SCARY deficit
-Cut Taxes to incredibly LOW rates.
-Diminish the power of the Federal government, and put it back into the STATES power... (this would be REALLY cool)
-Bring back our cooperative Foreign Policies that don't ANGER the rest of the world (something a terrorist could handle, i think, lol)

AND MANY MORE GREAT PLANS

He's on the republican ticket, but he can hardly be called a republican.
He ran as a Libertarian on 1988, and has one of the cleanest voting records on congress (which means this is a guy who will stick to what he tells us... something hard to find in Washington these days

THIS IS OUR GUY PEOPLE

LETS NOT FIGHT OVER DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS ANYMORE... they're all the same, and what this country needs most is CHANGE.

What would our former selves of even the 1990's have to say about us today??

I can't think of anything good

Democratic Congress: 11% approval rating as of now
Republican White House: Roughly less than 30% (way low)

Whose actually representing our people?!?!?

Ron Paul doesn't play with the big boys of Washington.

He's his OWN person, isn't corrupt, HAS HIS OWN GREAT IDEAS,

And after the democrats promised change from Bush after we voted them into the Senate and the House... Look what they have done in a YEAR!!! Nothing, but argue with each other.

I don't like it either guys, and the Media isn't trying to help the PEOPLE... ... they're trying to help their CEO's, and that's like preaching to the peasants in support of a greedy king.

WE CAN UNITE THROUGH RON PAUL, AND BRING AMERICA BACK TO THIS COUNTRY, BACK TO OUR GOVERNMENT, AND BACK TO US

two different political parties with different points of views...both coming from very humble and honorable beginnings ...but values for both parties have gotten lost a long the way. Some people in each party now pit Dems against Republicans and vice versa...we are both Americans, and should not be seperated into different classes....my opinion. Your daughter is 18, she should've learned the difference in US gov't in high school. But this is a great time to see both parties in action with the presidential nominees getting all revved up...kudos for her for wanting to know the difference. But make sure she reads the history of both parties...it'll give her a more rounded view on them.

what justmesaid - only she has the web sites wrong

www.gop.org
www.dnc.org

Look for the link to party platform.

It's best if she develops a sense of how she would like to see her government work, then vote for people who most closely match her opinions.

In the end the vast majority of politicians are moderate, yet the extremists get elected to the big jobs (Dick Cheney).

Republicans like to help the rich and big corporations and Democrats had rather help the poor and middle class. That's it in a nutshell as simple as I can put it.

define republican:

Typically a person who believes that:

1)The 2nd Amendment of the Constitution takes precedence over the rest of the Constitution.

2)The rich and corporate america should be tax-exempt, and that the middle and lower classes should have to foot the bill, also, a person who bitches when an under-funded government agency is unable to carry out its assigned task.

3)Thinks that programs such as welfare, medicare/medicaid and minimum wage are unconstitutional and should be banned.

4)Labels everything and everyone they disagree with as being "Communist" or "Anti-American" or "French."

5)Someone who supports the rights of the unborn, but won't fund stem cell research that could help the millions who are already here. The first one to protest abortion rights, and the first one willing to take a life through capital punishment.

6)Someone who espouses personal freedom, and then tries to pass constitutional amendments to restrict it.

7)Someone threatened by government surplus but unphased by government deficits. Someone who is pro-business but anti-citizen.

8)Someone who wants to take away the helping hand, after he's made it to safety in her/her own endeavors.
