On a scale of 1-10, how sophisticated would you say that the reasoning abilities of the denizens here are?

I'm thinking in terms the ability to:

1 - Make cogent statements,
2 - Use logically consistent arguments, and
3 - Deal with hypothetical situations.

You know, stuff like that.

Ten points for the most accurate answer.

If I had to come up with an average, I'd say 4. There are some intelligent people on YA but the question/answer format makes it difficult to really construct and debate an issue. For the most part it seems to be a place for asking biased, inflammatory questions instead of trying to resolve a legitimate queries.

You know, it's a really wide gamut.

A lot of posters here, on all sides, just post ignorance and intolerance. There are a few who truly have thought provoking answers or questions.

Someone today posted what I thought was a great thought provoking question. If the Dems succeed in closing down Gitmo, what will they do with the detainees? After all, they are constantly calling for it's closure. Will they send'em all home to rejoin the terrorist ranks? Send'em to the US with all the lawyers they want to tie up the legal system for years?

There's quite a range, probably from 0 (so incoherent you can't even figure out what they're trying to say) to 7 (college sophomore level critical thinking).

i would say 10, eddie sweetheart. there are many sophisticated denizens here. i think, however, that your definition of the abilities 1,2,and 3 are based on whether they agree with you. don't you think?
