How can it be that we have a law for Cubans to step foot on our soil and they are legal automatically, but we don't have that for anyone else. Now I know Cuba has a horrible president. But Mexico's president isn't the best either. And what about the other countries. Shouldn't we change that law? Or do you think it should stay the same? Please no snide or rude comments. Thankyou for your time.

Good question. I think that the law for Cuba is fair. Also I think we need to do something to help influence Mexico's president into changing their laws around to make their country better, so they aren't trying to jump our border. Either that or make it where it's easier for them to get into our country LEGALLY instead of illegally. Since we all know it's hard to get in or leave legally.

I believe we should force Cubans to go through the same procedures as everyone from all other countries. In order to make this fair, there are two options: let everyone who steps on our soil become citizens, or force everyone to do the same things to become citizens. Personally, I don't think most Americans would admire the idea of letting everyone who wants to be a citizen just walk on in; there is already people who castigate illegal aliens for being in our country, do you really believe they'll like the idea of them becoming citizens? I'm not sure exactly how someone becomes a citizen, but I'm sure it's not something Cubans couldn't do. I feel they should become citizens the same way all other people do.

Simple, the wet foot dry foot law was put in place because Cuba is officially a communist country. During the cold war special rules were passed to allow citizens of communist states to seek asylum. With Mexico they are just coming for economic reasons.

The Cuban Adjustment Act was passed back in 1965. It's been the law ever since. Congress is free to change it any time they like.

It demonstrates the power of an effective lobbying effort. The Cuban/American lobby is as effective as the NRA or Israel. Any effort to loosten ties with the Cuban government or return refugees from there is attacked.

you are talking about the "wet foot, dry foot law" . they are not automatically legal they are just accepted has a " public interest parolee" and they have to prove they are admissible as immigrants, such as not being a criminal or communist. but they have to step foot on u.s. soil, if the coast guard catches them at sea they are always apprehended and returned.

That law should be changed - it just encourages people to risk their lives in the ocean. We need a moratorium on all immigration, especially since so many people complain about how long it takes. Maybe if they can't come at all they might appreciate it (doubtful).

It came about when Cuba became openly communistic, to "save" people from communism.

Mexico isn't ostensibly communistic. until it is, it won't change.
