So many questions on here lately deal with third-party candidates and alternatives to right and left. I don't get it.

Yes, there is a center, and most of us are somewhere near it, but there is a line in the exact center and we are all either to the right or the left of it. For example, I am a Republican, no question, but I believe in keeping Roe vs Wade intact. So I fall to the left there, but to the right on almost everything else.

People who don't like the fact that they're either right or left always bring up third parties as if there's an answer there. The truth is, the Green Party is farther left than the Dems, the Liberatarians are further right than the Reps and the Independents just flat don't know what position to take on any argument at all. (And if they do, it makes them lean either to the right or to the left.) So how is this an answer?

I just don't understand why people think there can be a third way besides right or left. It puzzles me. Can you enlighten me?

It is my understanding the main rifles used were Springfield Model 1861 and 1863. Certainly a long way from smoothbore flintlocks of 20 years prior, but a long way from say the Springfield M1903. Germany developed the Mauser 6 years after the end of the Civil War. Talk about a huge leap!
Let's say even a relatively small advance, like the Springfield Model 1968, "Trapdoor Springfield" was possible in the Civil War. Would the significant advances in small arms soon to become popular have been even remotely possible in the Civil War period? Would limited production (say a single regiment) of these bolt action or trapdoor rifles significantly effect the outcome of the war? I find it interesting such developments were not long off, yet somebody couldn't have rushed that technology. Look at WW-2, in the beginning, the P-40 was probably the main fighter aircraft. Compare that to a P-51. Aircraft are far more complex, yet in a short time there were design revolutions, not evolutions. Thanks.

I am a high school student in the New York Metro. This week, I recieved a "language" survey administered by my french teacher. The nameless survey asked for my name, address, grade, and current GPA. It asked what language I am currently taking, what languages I wish to take, and what college/career I wish to pursue. Then, it asked if I did any varsity sports, and my views on joining the military! Additionally, this survey asked if I had no choice, what branch of the armed forces would I wish to join! The address at the bottom indicated the so-called "language" survey was from Alexandria, VA.....which also happens to be the home of the department of defense. I wanted to know if anyone else has recievied this survey, and if it is even legal to give to a bunch of 14 year old freshmen!!!!

Barack Obama wants to eliminate the earnings cap on income to save the Social Security system. I think his plan would only hurt the people in it , like seniors, and damage the economy that supports it.

From torture to wars of aggression to inflated no-bid contract to election fraud to the 9-11 conspiracy . . . and now this story breaks. There is some new corruption unfolding here on almost a daily basis. There is so much corruption in the U.S. that it is virtually impossible for any one person to keep up. Is any nation more corrupt than the U.S.

FBI offered me $4m: Lockerbie bomb witness
By MICHAEL HOWIE
HOME AFFAIRS CORRESPONDENT (mhowie@scotsman.com)

A WITNESS in the Lockerbie case has claimed he was offered $4 million (£2 million) by American investigators to lie to the trial judges.

Edwin Bollier, head of the Swiss company MEBO that was said to have manufactured the timer used to detonate the Pan Am bomb, claims he was offered the money by the FBI at its Washington HQ in exchange for making a statement that supported the main line of inquiry - that Libya was responsible for the bombing.

I bought something on ebay, they ripped me off and claimed that my order didn't "clear". It cleared, they wanted $20 to ship a working part AND told eBay that I never paid. I now have a no pay strike and I paid. User also shipping my item in emails containing personal information of 7 different users. Should I go above and beyond ebay to report this, they seem to be doing nothing.

by the courts, can the paperwork be re-done? I recently went over my boyfriends divorce paperwork after it was sent back to him. I found a mistake. There is a place in the paperwork where the petitioner and respondent are switched. There are currently other problems with the dispersion of joint financial obligations (which is why i read over it to try to help come up with a solution) Since the paperwork is incorrect is there a way to have it rescinded and then re-done correctly by a different attorney?

As a big opponent to illegal immigration in california I face many difficult choices every day. It is because of concerned people like me that the problem will alleviate. Illegal immigration is a immense problem in California and causes quite a backlash these days, not only from generally 'Anglos Americans' and other groups to latinos, but also simply from legal Mexicans who are (regrettably) looked at with increased negativity.
Many times I go to a restaurant or other business like store or carwash and I see a lot of latino (usually Mexican) workers, waiters, valet etc. I won't mind if they are legal but I fear they are mostly not these days. How can I tell? I need to know because spending money in the wrong places and people stimulates illegal immigration.
Must I ask (and believe) the owner? Do illegals have certain tattoos (3 dots)? I saw a post saying that if you shout ICE, those who scatter are illegals. Seriously i don't want to shout ICE in every restaurant. Any better way?

I just got hired at a hotel, They said they need to check my background , they said it should take 5 days ,and if it comes back clean then I start work in a week. When it takes 5 days to come back, does that mean a full background check or just regular to see if I am a criminal? I have no criminal record but Iam worried about my credit and my education background, I kinda lied about where I go to college. And some of the company I worked for was a small company so I doubt they even will show up on file. The job doesnt require any degree , just really good customer service , Its a front desk hotel job. I made good impression on all 3 interviews so now Iam worried I wont get the job. Does anyone here know wat goes on ?? or does anyone here do the background check for your company. Should I be worried??? This is in NYC btw
