Ever since I've known what it was, I couldn't imagine who could be okay with it. And I'm a bit sickened to think of doctors performing them.
Justgrandma: Please show me data that proves these mothers are better off psychologically, after aborting these babies, than they would be carrying them to term? I have a bit of anecdotal evidence to support that women who carry them to term can and do recover emotionally.

I don't think that anyone supports partial birth abortion, but many think it should not be made illegal. Not every wrong it the world can be made better by government action. I would like for there be no dictators in the world, every child to be loved and cared for, no unwanted pregnancies and no abortions. But in the real world, life often consisted of choosing between bad alternatives, and I think the people closest to the problem are in a better position to make the decision than I am, and much better than the government. Laws criminalizing actions should only be passed when there is a broad consensus that something should be prohibited. As you point out passing laws do not prevent the procedure, nor will overturning Roe vs Wade stop abortions.

It is plain and simple murder. If a baby has no brain or lungs, etc. it won't live long and then it is God's business to take the child when He is ready. It is never for the mothers safety because by the time you do a partial birth abortion, the baby could be delivered and live. If the baby is already dead, then it is delivering a still born.

Seeing things like this almost make me think 9-11 actually was a punishment from God upon a deranged and depraved American society. Almost. I have no idea how anyone could support it and just wish people would start to respect life again.
@LongTermCapitalManagement: I don't care if I get reported for saying this but ... By using the word "it", and by trying to justify partial birth abortion, you are lower than scum in my book.

How can anyone support partial birth abortion? Hearts have been hardened. Some babies have been known to survive but were left to die sometimes over hours.

Really. . . How is it that individuals such as yourself get upset over a procedure that is done in less than 2 % of all abortions performed every year? It amazes me that there are people dying of starvation, exposure, drugs, abuse, children being raped, kidnapped and abused, and so on, and your focus is on something that happens less than 2 % of the total time?
Seriously, you really need to look at the bigger picture, and stop worrying about what others do with their lives. I don't like abortion, but making it illegal won't stop it. If laws were truly the answer, then there would be no crime. . . Education is the answer. Go speak to the kids. Don't try to stir a pot that really doesn't need to be stirred. And get out from behind the computer and maybe do something to better your community instead of sitting there and griping about the things that you don't really get/and can't change.

I think it's a little more complicated than just that.. It's an awful "looking" practice, and if you don't know the facts behind it, of course you would be against it.. Personally, I don't have a problem with it if the babies already dead.. So that means you'll call me a supporter.. I've never heard anybody, liberal or conservative that supports it, with no reason behind it.. You should try actually listening to the full argument instead of picking and choosing..
Edit: Did you even read your own link? It says, they suck the brains in order to collapse the skull.. In other words, make it smaller to not harm the woman.. Sheesh.. It's obvious you have no clue.. Pay attention...

I am ashamed that this issue ever even became an issue.
I, too, can't imagine anyone who could somehow rationalize this procedure.
It seems to be the natural conclusion to the agenda of "anything goes" and there should be no consequences for ones actions - irregardless.
It's a sad commentary on the general decline in morality and mutual respect for life in this country.

How can I support it? In very rare cases it is the safest way to abort. For instance, if a baby has very severe birth defects that only show up later in pregnancy (I don't know specifics, but let's say it has no lungs). A non-viable fetus is dangerous to the mother and has no chance of surviving, so the only option is to abort as soon as possible. Partial birth abortion is safer to the mother than other kinds of abortion. This is the only case where it should be used.
The point of "sucking the brains out" when the fetus is already dead, is to make it smaller and easier to remove from the womb. The other alternative is invasive surgery, which is more dangerous to the mother.
And as for waiting for God to take the fetus, this is what many Catholic hospitals do. If a woman is bearing a non-viable fetus, they won't abort it until the woman has life-threatening complications, due to carrying a dead fetus. In any other medical situation, wouldn't you want to prevent life-threatening complications, instead of waiting for them to happen before any medical interventions?
