Iraqis tell Washington to monitor its own progress
15 Sep 2007 11:46:56 GMT
Iraq in turmoil
BAGHDAD, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Iraqi lawmakers said on Saturday Washington was covering up for its own mistakes in Iraq by setting them artificial benchmarks to meet and then ticking them off like scorecards.

Frustrated by criticism from the U.S over their slow progress towards political goals meant to foster national reconciliation, Iraqi leaders said Washington would be better served by dxamining its own progress in the unpopular war.

"The Americans always try to pretend the responsibility for cleaning up this mess isn't theirs and tend to shift blame onto Iraq, Iran and Syria for everything that goes wrong," said veteran Kurdish lawmaker Mahmoud Othman.
"But they should stop this nonsense and admit that most of the accountability rests on their shoulders," he told Reuters.

I so agree.
And yourselves?
(Give YOUR reasoning withOUT criticizing my question OR that I agree.)

Richard Mellon Scaife, billionaire media mogul who financed the never ending effort to bring down Bill Clinton for adultery, is getting divorced from his second wife, Ritchie. The reason? She caught him having an affair.

Not the first time either, since Scaife was seeing Ritchie for years in the 80s, while still married to his first wife.

In the past few years, Scaife has had his wife arrested for tresspassing at their house, and then had her arrested after as scuffle over ownership of their pet labrador retriever.

This is the guy who brought you The Arkansas Project, dolling out money to anyone who would alledge an affair with President Clinton. He was the financier of the "Great Conservative Conspiracy of which Hillary Clinton spoke.

.....how come they don't understand why we hate ABORTION ????

Aren't they both about the same thing - the murder of innocent lives to an unjust cause?

And isn't whether or not the cause is "just" or "unjust" simply in the eye of the beholder?

Immigration rocks. The Earth belongs to everyone and we should be able to go where ever we want. But we must also follow the rules, do it LEGALLY!!! Mexicans come here legally everyday as well as people from all around the globe. Hell, we let Arabs in after 9/11 so it is not like it is that hard to get in. Why let people stay here if they have such a blaitant disreguard for our laws?

Why didn't the Republicans ever get it?

The expected crowd:10,000.

The actual turnout: 100,000.

WOW! Go Team America! (I'm referring to REAL Americans here, people that have the backbone to stand-up for what they believe in, not just repeat what the media tells them.) These people are just as important to our country as the soldiers that defend it. What good is freedom if you don't excersize your rights?

Isn't this about as absurd as negotiating with Al Qaeda?

Al Qaeda needs to be defeated, not placated. Unfortunately, the current administration is not capable of doing that. The current adminstration has managed to grow Al Qaeda's resolve and deminish ours.

It's a sad time for America.

Direct quotes from General David H. Patraeus to the American people:

“I see tangible progress.”
“Iraqi security elements are being rebuilt from the ground up.”
“Iraqi leaders are stepping forward…”
“…there has been progress.”
“…protection forces are performing a wide variety of security missions”
“Training is on track…”
“Infrastructure is being repaired.”
“Iraqi security forces are in the fight…”
“…recently contributed to successful operations in Najaf.”
“…another highly successful operation…”
“…will complete training in January, in time to help with security missions…”
“Iraqi National Guard battalions have also been active…”
“…are conducting operations on a daily basis…many independently”
“Progress has also been made in police training.”
“…specialized training for Iraq’s border enforcement…”
“…units are not fully equipped. But equipment has begun flowing”
“…progress is also being made in the reconstruction and refurbishing…”
“…as Iraq reestablishes its security forces.”
“…desire to assume the full burden of security tasks for Iraq.”
“Iraq’s security forces are, however, developing steadily…”
“It will not be easy, but few worthwhile things are.”

Unfortunately those words were in an OP-Ed column he wrote for the Washington Post on September 26, 2004. Two months later the Coalition Forces suffered their worst losses ever, 137 deaths in November, 2004. Since that OP-ED piece 2714 Coalition Forces and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been killed. How can General Patraeus can sit before US Congressional Committees three years later and tell us the same things? What gall!

Here’s another quote from an earlier era:

“Then I'll get on my knees and pray...We don't get fooled again”
Pete Townshend, The Who, 1971

How quickly one forgets. Johnny Howard is going to give us Nuclear Reactors and a wonderful theme park called." Dump your waste here". This stuff has a 1/2 life of 1 Thousand Years. I am sure all the children in 100 Years would love to have this beside their playgrounds. Do not believe me, Read a book called The Silent Bomb. It will change your mind about Nuclear Reactors. It will be our children that face this mess left by us,

An equal opportunity question: what tv stations would be most appropriate to televize the Democratic National Convention (DNC) and the Republican National Convention (RNC)?

Which one is more likely to resemble a circus?

Which one will be the most surreal?

Which one will have the most unintentionally funny speeches?

If there were ever a debate between Condaleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton, who would win?

Heya, last night at 5am suddenly loads of noise started upstairs, they randomly put on 1 song really loudly, then after that I heard someone, who must be the size of an elephant, jumping up and down and walking around thudding their feet, it was so loud my ceiling was creaking. Then they started playing guitar and wailing along to it, after about half an hr a taxi pulled up, someone yelled like a caveman out of the window at him, then I heard the fat guy fall down, get up and run down the stairs and get into it. I've never heard footsteps from upstairs before so this friend of theirs must have been huge cos it was soooo loud. When I got up this morning I noticed he'd left the front door to the building wide open! After that there was no noise but by this time I was wide awake. They did this the night before but last night was worse. I was just about to put on some loud music so they got the hint, but luckily then that fat guy went home. Any suggestions for if it happens again?
