The news is stocks plunges 221 points on the news of 4000 jobs lost in August. That's less than 1.67%. The Dow is currently over 13,000. And the market hasn't closed for the day, yet. Four years ago it wasn't even at 10,000.

Looks like the media is having a hay-day with the 4000 job loss.

Why not let the state make businesses that the prisoners would work, drycleaing, assembly or whatever, services to the outer world, worked IN the prison-this will solve a couple problems-
1-they will be paid real wages, and a portion will be kept out automatically for thier room board food whatever
2-they will learn a skill and responsibility
3-another portion will come out for thier CHILD support, freeing the state from having to take care of all the prisoners kids on the outside
4-We dont have to pay for the upkeep of criminals since that will be deducted from thier pay
5-What do YOU think?

My 17 year old son got into some legal trouble in the early spring. We have been to court several times and the judge imposed a curfew of 8 pm nightly. He has complied and never missed his curfew. His probation officer explained that as long as he is with his parent(s) he doesn't have to be at home as this isn't house arrest just a curfew. In other words, he can go places with his parent(s) after 8 pm but not alone. We notified probation that we would be out of town for the weekend to see the Green Bay Packer, Pa Eagles game and the court refuses to let him attend with his parents. My question is this, if he has a curfew and is suddenly being told he cannot attend events with his parents (that was not stated at any time during any court appearance or in any papers) is it considered double jeapordy? I am in no way defending what my son has done, but more trying to understand what they are doing. btw, every time I call probation, they never give me a straight answer, just the run around

I have realised people go to prison for a first offence(even if it is not serious like violence) when they can have the option of a fine, suspended sentence, rehabilitation if drink or drugs played a part, or community service! Shouldnt people only go to prison if they are repeatedly offending after the above options are not a deterent, or convicted of a violent crime where they are a danger to society?

despite the get tough patriotic tone lets examine the record. trickle down reaganomics led directly to a recession. he destroyed unions and started the wave of "ceo paradise" with unlimited power, excessive greed and coruption.he fostered a patriotic attitude that went to far, allowing an arrogance and acceptance of racism past and present. his second term was especially brutal with the iran contra scandal, the unattended crack and aids epidemics and the erosion of our enviroment and infrastructure. he clearly exbihited signs of advanced alzheimers while still in office.the cold war was won in the 1970s when our economy, chess (yes bobby fischers win underminded soviet intellectual advances)the nasa space triumph and most important the soviet decision to invade afganistan. Our decision to invade iraq may undermind our superpower status in case you don't make the connection. in summary the conservative worship of president reagan is unsubstaniated.

I stated a few months ago that we were not leaving Iraq. It's geographical location was too perfect. It has now been revealed we are not and will not leave Iraq. Bush's invasion/occupation purpose was to put us centre stage in the Middle East. This man's deception is unrivaled. Wake up everyone. There are so many layers to this and none of it good.

i just learned that 11 sex offenders live within 1000 ft. of my child's daycare. i believe 1000 ft. is the law, at least where i live...indiana. i don't know who to report this to, though? do i just report it to the police, or someone else? and, will they really even do anything? i would hope so, but these losers that aren't worthy of breathing our air are everywhere. they should create a place called "scum island" just for them. anyway, i want them away from the daycare, so please help?

I let my friend borrow $1500.00 in December 2006. I told her to not worry about paying me a lot back.. just pay me when she can. She didn't pay me back at all.

In June 2007 I still didn't get anything from her so I offered the money as a gift... cause I figure I wasn't gonna get anything back. She said no its cool.. you'll get your money.

I found out later that around the same time she borrowed from me, she has been letting some guy borrow money from her that is of smaller amounts (like $25.00 here and $15.00 there). .. but never paid me anything from DEC-JUN.

We went to best buy and she mentioned something about wanting to buy a WII for her daughter.

In August 2007.. still. I tell her I feel I am being taken advantage of. She gets mad... she sends me $50.00 and says she'll start paying me but for me to never to talk to her again. I send $50.00 back saying the friendship isn't worth it.
