despite the get tough patriotic tone lets examine the record. trickle down reaganomics led directly to a recession. he destroyed unions and started the wave of "ceo paradise" with unlimited power, excessive greed and coruption.he fostered a patriotic attitude that went to far, allowing an arrogance and acceptance of racism past and present. his second term was especially brutal with the iran contra scandal, the unattended crack and aids epidemics and the erosion of our enviroment and infrastructure. he clearly exbihited signs of advanced alzheimers while still in office.the cold war was won in the 1970s when our economy, chess (yes bobby fischers win underminded soviet intellectual advances)the nasa space triumph and most important the soviet decision to invade afganistan. Our decision to invade iraq may undermind our superpower status in case you don't make the connection. in summary the conservative worship of president reagan is unsubstaniated.

I agree with you. Trickle down economics was a failure. Does anyone remember the farm failures? Pursuit of "StarWars" technology even his own experts said we did not have the base technology to develop. Iran Contra for which he should have been impeached for contravening Congressional mandates. Reductions of Veteran's benefits.
Bonzo may have done a better job.

It would be difficult to OVERRATE President Ronald Reagan.

Consider this very likely scenario: if Jimmy Carter had gotten a second term in office, the Soviet Union would have continued their massive expansionism. Maybe you forget this era, but the Soviet Union's influence around the world was growing at an alarming rate. Already, most of Western Europe subscribed to some sort of Socialism, so the final acquiescence to Communism would not have been that big a jump.

When Reagan entered office, all his advisors, especially the economists like Galbraith and Samuelson, told Reagan that the Soviet economy was in great shape, and actually outpacing the United States. They told him that a policy of trying to bankrupt them would be fruitless, and maybe even backfire. They were totally wrong. Everyone was wrong... except Reagan. The money he spent to ensure the demise of the USSR was the best money we ever spent.

Ask anyone knowledgeable the growth of the high tech field, and they will tell you that Reagan's tax credits for corporate R&D are what led to the high tech explosion. The economy we enjoy today is in large part due to his savvy viewpoint that businesses need to invest in the future, and that such investment will reap innumerable rewards for all of society.

Before Reagan entered office, the United States was demoralized. Everyone talked about how our best days were behind us. Even more alarmingly, you started hearing more talk about "moral equivalency" between Capitalism and Communism, as if our government were preparing us for the fateful day when we'd have to acede to the USSR's international mastery. We were deeply mired in the Carter "malaise", and no one had much hope for the future.

Then, just like John Wayne galloping on a white stallion to rescue the beseiged fort, Reagan took a demoralized nation that had largely lost confidence, and made people believe in a bright future. That is the mark of a truly remarkable President.

At that point in history, we needed someone to bring us out of the malaise of the grim Carter years. Reagan took office when everyone had aging, rusting cars, ugly avocado green appliances, a shrinking salary, and few people believed there were bright times ahead. He made us proud to be American. By the sheer force of his optimism and buoyant personality, he made us all believe that the best times were yet to come, and so investors took heed.

I have never been so proud to be American as when Reagan was in office. When I travelled overseas during these times, almost EVERYONE liked and respected the U.S.

We can thank Reagan for the boom of the 1990s, because it all had its start under his watch.

Handling the AIDS crisis: He ignored it and the repercussions will be with the world for the next half century

No the honor of most overrated pres belongs to either of the bush's especially the current pres. who even now dispite common sense is still allowed to run the country...the truly sick thing is that there are still retards out there like elizabeth hassleback who think he's great...has the world gone mad!?! Why has'nt he been impeached, charged with crimes and tried as the no good criminal that he is...here's why, our people are nothing more than mindless cattle that will follow the tune of any pied piper that sounds good! When will people learn to think for themselves? It's said in machavelli's "the prince" (which I'm sure the bush's read!) that no invading conquerer may conquer a land without the approval and aid of the native people first!

Everybody since JFK has been a globalist so that makes all of them crummy in my estimation. FDR and Wilson had to be the worst and they are also idolized.

Teddy and Ike were great!

You really give the presidents too much credit - they are puppet masters of the billionaires in this day and time.

Yeah, however, most people are trying to make Bill Clinton seem so overrated. They just want Hillary as president.

But Reagan was a great president so I don't blame him for being overrated.

you purely ought to study my profile to be attentive to my opinion of President Ronald Wilson Reagan. What irritates me approximately maximum of historians is they seem for excuses to no longer credit Reagan with ending the chilly conflict. they think of he purely stumbled into the excellent place on the excellent time. they have a be conscious for individuals like that, yet "idiots", "morons", "feeble minded" does not even start to conceal it. Reagan replaced into intelligent. He replaced right into a grasp negotiator, a ability he discovered combating the toughest adversary wide-unfold to guy: the tightfisted Hollywood studio bosses who might have paid actors with a cup of rice on a daily basis in the event that they might. Reagan replaced right into a techniques wiser and cleverer than human beings gave him credit for. He knew that SDI ought to no longer artwork for some years, he knew it ought to easily supply adequate of a shield to guard specific mushy U.S. militia aims. yet he wager that it might scare the Bejesus out of the Soviets, and it did. He wager they might start up panicking as a effect of all this, and that they did. that's the place Reagan made his pass. He outmaneuvered the befuddled Gorbachev like Kasparov on the chess board. He saved chiding and prodding Gorbachev to institute this reform, get rid of that requirement, expand this, tighten that, till sooner or later the Politburo found out they that they have been painted right into a nook, and the satellite tv for pc international locations have been approximately to insurrection. there replaced into no ideas left. Reagan's secret economic conflict against the Soviets had bankrupted them, and now they could no longer even administration jap Europe. game over. Reagan gained. (Gorby purely took the credit like some grinning fool).

You are spewing so much misinformation and demagogery that I am sure it would be pointless to point out for you why it is that Reagan is the best President this country has had in the last several decades. I am sure that you would not pay any attention. You're mind, filled with misinformation, is made up so any other rebuttal points would be wasted on you.
