How is the use of "executive privlege" (a theoretical power at best) any excuse to not follow the laws of the land? Since one of GWB's major campaign platforms was that he was a man of the people, should he not be subjected to the same standards of law as the rest of us?

This seems to be an egregious abuse of power on his part. I'm sure I will get people on here flaming the boards because they blindly follow the GOP, regardless of the legality of their actions, but how can any Republican back this action?

My son just turned 2. His father and I have set up our own payment arrangements for child support without having to go through the court system. He only makes $8 an hour, I don't make much more, he pays me $200 a month and a lot of people are saying that's not enough. I am really struggling with my bills and want to ask him for $50 more a month. He is already paying me too much?

He's suing the landlord, and the lawyer is asking for a list of his personal losses.. emotional, physical, monetary, ect. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

We have broken both aspects of this. We strip free exercise of religion out of schools and courthouses while at the same time several states have "marriage amendments" to their consitutions that are based only on religious beliefs. How does this make any sense?

It was Kennedy's bill when it had a chance of passing.

Don't get me wrong, Bush supported it enthusiastically and deserves the further loss of aproval. But it was Kennedy and McCain that cobbled it together behind closed doors and introduced it.

that we live in a zero-sum world and that taking the developing world's elites we have a negative effect on the countries from which they emmigrate?
This entire debate seems to assume an infinite world and glosses over the impact of poor countries losing their engineers, scientists and thinkers to the West.
Let's stop ripping the Yankees for taking the best free-agents and cease the parochial idea that America's impact on the world is completely benign...please.

Why would anyone with an ounce of common sense, want to legitimize illegal activity? I know Libs see them as votes, because they will become dependant on the Government, and republicans (not Conservatives) are just butt kissing. But like I said,I wanted responses from people who have common sense.
What about all the people who have waited on line for years to enter legally. What message does that send?

A Constitutional Showdown is looming over Executive powers. Bush/Cheney are trying to make the Executive branch practically unanswerable to anyone. This could have far reaching implications for a Democratic Presidency combined with a Democratic majority in Congress. I hope you Republicans are ready for this storm that may hit you in the not-too-distant future.
