Why would anyone with an ounce of common sense, want to legitimize illegal activity? I know Libs see them as votes, because they will become dependant on the Government, and republicans (not Conservatives) are just butt kissing. But like I said,I wanted responses from people who have common sense.
What about all the people who have waited on line for years to enter legally. What message does that send?

todd s. I don't think you are an idiot, but most of what you state comes down to personal responsibility. Don't have a family if you cannot afford it. they may not wish to harm this country, but they are a drain on our society. And yes I do know many illegals, they may be nice people, but still illegal and taking away from my family

I agree with your last sentence whole-heartedly. It makes a mockery of the ones who have done it properly, and spent thousands of dollars to be here legally. I'm one of them.

I know you won't consider this common sense or believe that I am a strong conservative, but I'm going to tell you what I think anyway because you asked.
I believe in law and order and protecting our borders. But the people we are talking about are not looking to destroy this country. These are people looking for work and I think there is a way to make that happen.
I know several people who are here illeagally. Some love this country and others just want a job. Most aren't a threat to any high paying jobs. Many work jobs that I want nothing to do with. They all pay taxes and are not looking for a hand out. They just want an opportunity.
The reason they came here illegally is that they can't wait ten years to find work. If I had a family (which many I know do) I'd do whatever it took to take care of it, and I would bet you would too.
I think that if the United States were to make more work visas available (not citizenship necessarily, just work) it would make a big difference for everyone. Applicants could be properly screened, limited at least initially to the type of job and be encouraged to use proper chanels and not risk their lives crossing the border illegally.
If you were to give these people who are here now the opportunity to become legitimate workers here in the U.S. we would be better able to track and contol the situation. The tougher you make it for them the more likely they will seek jobs with under the table pay which is never reported and is never taxed.
I know you don't agree with me and I'm sure you're thinking I'm an idiot. That's fine. But I would be willing to bet you don't know a single person who is here illegally and don't understand what they are facing. You may not even know anyone who is even Hispanic. I'd just like to challenge you to step outside of your own shoes for a while and get to know the people on the other side of the issue.

Sod the U.S. You think you are the only ones on the planet with issues? The Australian Immigration mess ? Melbourne is rife with vulnerable young ladies with so called "study visas" who are drafted into working in brothels to pay back huge debts to crooked organisations who get them past the visa loopholes. Some of these girls are kept in the brothels night and day and abused by the operators of the places.
I am constantly trying to get some response from the Immigration to listen, visit these places and release the victims but am afraid they will be put into the detention centres. One prison to another !
Australia's Immigration Department is an absolute disgrace ! If I can get behind the scenes and discover these atrocities then I am sure the DIMIA are able to,yet this "industry" continues to thrive. Victoria State being unique in this area of legislation, my point is that making something "legal'' doesn't necessarily make it ethical or humane and free from gross exploitation. In fact it creates in this case a platform from where the perpetrators can easily operate.

because for bush it is easier to solve the problem by passing the bill. He figures if he gives every illegal alien citizenship, at least someone would like him. I agree, it sends the wrong message not only to people trying to enter our country legally, but to people all over the world. it shows that honest people finish last, and criminals finish on top. I am VERY glad that the bill got voted down. I agree with the opposition, we need to strenghten our borders first and THEN worry about the illegals in our country.

In California, illegal aliens are a very important part of the community and the economy. - Most of the people I know feel that we are better off having them here and we don't want them deported or harassed with random roundups by Immigration and customs enforcement. I can't help but admire these people - who work for low pay and still manage to send money home to their families.

Illegals can't vote
Part of the problem is we have accomodated the illegals too much. I am getting sick of having to make a selection to speak ENGLISH on a business phone. I am tired that the tax payer having to spend money on biligual education. If you don't care enough about being a citizen to learn the language and become a part of society then look elsewhere.

It was an insult to the ones going the legal route. And Ryan illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. What about all the dollars spent on them instead of our own people. Social services, schools going broke and hospitals closing because of them. Our citizens are the victims.

You have a good point. Why should it be okay for the people from Mexico to come here illegally, when there are people in worse countries that are being murdered, enslaved and tortured?! I think they should be allowed to come here legally first, you don't see them sneaking in by the millions.

Because they feel BAD that their parents, grandparents, and great grandparents, and great GREAT grandparents fought hard to make a better life for themselves and their families LEGALLY in this great country. They think their family oppressed someone by doing this. They carry some kind of illogical guilt trip.

They think we should let anyone forsake that sacrifice and hard work by ignoring our laws and just bum rushing this prosperous country because they can't figure out how to make it on their own and they don't want to wait for the opportunity to enter this country legally. They just want to take it. They are pissed off that they don't have it in their own country.

Well, in my humble opinion, if those that need a better life would fight for it like our ancestors and make change in their own country, they would be just fine.

Only misinformed idiots and rich exploiters want amnesty for illegals. We need immigration reform but this bill was a joke. Kick out the illegals and seal the borders!! Stop kissing Mexico's @ss!!

All I have to say is that deporting 12 million immigrants will not happen (doesn't matter if you keep ranting "deport all illegals, or illegal is illegal).

No laws will be enforced

Illegal immigration will continue to increase until something is done in 2009.
