This question is for those who self-identify as "conservative" or "liberal" (rather than "independent", "moderate", centrist").

Please answer just for yourself, not for the whole of "conservatism" or "liberalism". And please identify yourself as con or lib when you answer.

Conservatives - what keeps you from being even further to the right than you are?

Liberals - what keeps you from being even further to the left than you are?

Truly self-reflective, thoughtful answers appreciated. No bashing the other side or even your own, please.

I keep hearing senators talk about how its not amnesty because people here illegally have to wait till the triggers are in place before they can get citizenship. However, after 24 hours of the bill being signed everyone who is in the US illegally gets to stay here forever.

If they learned the lessons the the last "one time amnesty", then why do they give amnesty first again? Why not build the wall, get enough agents to secure the border, get the interior enforcement and control of the backlogs and visa system in place first? Why not abolish the anchor baby policy and get a way to match Americans to unfilled jobs, so we can implement and determine if we need to implement a temorary worker program?

I also don't understand why an amnendment to bar sex offenders and violent felons from staying here failed. What exactly are the senators thinking?

Just think of the efficiency ... It would be a lot easier if those of us in the middle class could just mail our hard-earned money in the form of big, fat checks to the Oil companies, pharmaceutical companies, Department of Defense contractors, HMOs, clear-cut logging, coal, and nuclear energy companies. Oh, and we mustn't forget out friends at Halliburton.

Why go through the trouble and expense of having these fine, upstanding industries lobby and conspire with the Republicans to find creative ways to pick our pockets. If we could mail our checks, the Repubican sugar daddies would still get the money they deserve ... the Republicans could wet their greedy little beaks ... and the poor and middle classes could still pay for it all. It would really save time and effort in getting screwed ... A Republican dream could continue.

Better yet, can we set up direct deposit into the secret accounts of Halliburton in Saudia Arabia. Then we wouldn't even have to lick a postage stamp?

Does it now seem the AP has a deaths in Iraq news templates where they just fill in the number of killed to print every morning?
It's a sad day when we care less about human deaths than mosquitoes. It's time to impeach this traitor and bring home our troops, don't you think?

Mark of the Beast

Revelations 13:16--

"And [the Antichrist] causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

And that no man might buy or sell, save [except] he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."

Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. Rev 13:16-18 KJV

So according to this passage in the Bible the Antichrist will force everyone to accept a mark in either the right hand or forehead of the wearer. Without this mark you won't be able to buy or sell."

What are your INSTINCTS about this?

All I ever hear is how hard working the Hispanics are. And I agree to a point. I have worked with all the races during my lifetime, and the Asians work the hardest, and want to succeed the most. I worked with several Vietnamese and they would work 3 jobs if they could. They are a smart people. I lived in an area where there are many Asians, and the majority of them worked their rear ends off. Polite, learned English and assimilated. Very successful. I don't see this with the illegal immigrants. What is your experience?

Bet if you didn't realize you contracted to an endless war. Think the reserves were meant for such a war like Iraq? Seems simple, 100,000 reserves refuse assignement to Iraq, USA involvement would come to an end.

as a moderate on either side it seems like a win-win situation with the current frontrunners. Not like last time with Bush and Kerry, that was more like "should i shoot myself in the leg, or cut my arm off with a hacksaw?"

The way that Cindy Sheehan or Danny Glover have done to the U.S. with Hugo Chavez?
Venezuela gives its citizens no right to free expression, yet libs embrace Chavez. We have more rights here, and libs hate it. Obviously, libs are not for our constitutional rights. They will deny it, but then they should be attacking Chavez, not Bush.

Look at the riots over Salman Rushdie.

Liberals think we are the bad guys trying to stop them from taking over the world.

Oh well like you to consider their views of Free Speech and what kind of speech they will give you if given a chance.

The conservs asked and responded to a question about Hilary and her looks. I won't; go there with Bush, because he's rather old-fashioned looking in the face. So I will ask about his mannerisms instead. Don't get mad conservs; and no I don't hate him. I'm nether demo or conserv. Very succinctly, I think for myself.

Fresh off CNN...

Despite the new Democratic congressional leadership's promise of "openness and transparency" in the budget process, a CNN survey of the House found it nearly impossible to get information on lawmakers' pet projects.

Staffers for only 31 of the 435 members of the House contacted by CNN between Wednesday and Friday of last week supplied a list of their earmark requests for fiscal year 2008, which begins on October 1, or pointed callers to Web sites where those earmark requests were posted.

Of the remainder, 68 declined to provide CNN with a list, and 329 either didn't respond to requests or said they would get back to us, and didn't.
