for everything bad that happens, when it is usually Congress that comes up with all the bright ideas, but yet gets no credit when things go good? Congress gets the credit, but the President gets the blame? Can anyone explain this?

I thought the chapter about teachers was very well laid out and argumentative. The rest of her yammering seemed rather silly with her ad homenien attacks on Darwin, Clinton, feminists, etc

As long as an individual has not been convicted of a serious offence or is not mentally ill then he/she must serve on a jury in the UK if summoned.

I have recently completed my jury service at Canterbury Crown Court and I was absolutely horrified at the behaviour of some of the other jurors.

The case I was on lasted three weeks and two jurors took every Friday off 'sick' meaning that the trial was halted for three days at a cost of £10,000 a day to the tax payer and when we came to deliberate only four of us actually deliberated on the case with the other jurors being more interested in discussing their summer holiday plans and the state of the football premier league.

Should there be improved selection procedures to ensure that only responsible people are chosen to serve on juries or should the status quo be allowed to continue.

The following link provides additional examples of the unsuitability of many jurors:

Why are neo-cons so short sighted?

As Americans we should be able to participate in ADULT civil discourse. From reading many of your posts, all I see is childish name calling and snide partisan remarks. Why can't we try working together instead of tearing each other apart?

"We will in fact, be greeted as liberators... I think it will go relatively quickly... [in] weeks rather than months"
-Cheney, 2003
"It is unknowable how long that conflict will last..I doubt six months."
-Rumsfield, 2003
I don't pose these quotes not as a left-wing hitman but to point out how badly we have screwed up...I'd like to hear other people's perspective. Heres my view

Bush Admin.
-not enough troops to secure border
-war plan did not accurately reflect the predictions of experts, nor reflect history of intervention in middle east
-Poor oversight throughout (Abu Ghraib)
-Break up of Iraqi Army/Debathification

Provisional Authority (Post War Planning)
-Failure to emphasize basic needs for Iraqis: security, jobs, electricity, sanitation
-Over-emphasis on advanced ideas: i.e. national debit cards and flat taxes
-Using Saddam's palace as Central Command!

Military:
-Ignoring prisoner abuse
-Didn't remove poor commanders
-Submissive to poor civilian advice

I need your advice...

I sent a demand letter to my attorney last week. I have not heard from him. He has until this Friday to respond back. Should I call him to see if he got the letter and if they going to reply back by Friday? Or shall I wait until Friday?

I grew up at the end of the Cold War, but I saw some of the economic and social atrocities of the Soviet Empire. People were paying massive taxes and working with outdated, 50's-era machinery. People waiting in line for hours for basic amenities. And at the top, the military and political leaders lived high on the hog at the people's expense.

Now I see that people--more the political leaders in the Left Wing--are talking of bringing 'shared prosperity' to government by taking the profits of oil companies and other big money-makers and put it in the government's coffers...which is blatant socialism! So I'd like anyone out there to explain to me why you'd want to live in a society that crushes all independent thoughts and wants in favor of having the government make all the decisions for you while taxing you to hell in the process.

most of the 1,221 weather stations that the federal government uses to gather data on temperatures are improperly placed and records invalid data. This data is then used to predict global warming doom.. oh boy!

During the clinton scandal (for which bill clinton was ultimately disbarred and impeached), the liberals called for "respecting the president." Now that bush is having "scandals" shouldn't we still respect the presidency?

Isn't this the same point?

My objectives would be to forward equal rights for white male Americans.
I would work to:
1. End the racist "Affirmative Action" policies.
Thus allowing equal opportunities for education and employment for all Americans.

2. Work to strike all "Hate Crime" legislation. Making criminal sentencing equal regardless of race.

...which is below Bush's. How do the Democrats do such a spectacular job screwing up that they did in six months what Bush hasn't done in six years?

Was it failing to oppose amnesty for criminal aliens, failure to end the Iraq war, or Harry Reid's monomaniacal witch hunt against Administration officials?

Tonnetta Lee survived Tuesday's pre-dawn shooting at her Jacksonville apartment, and her sister and a neighbor praised Bruley's actions. But his employers, the same people who own the Arlington complex where Bruley lives, reacted differently. They fired him.

Bruley, a leasing agent at the Oaks at Mill Creek, said he lost his job after being told that brandishing the weapon was a workplace violation, as was failing to notify supervisors after the incident occurred. He'd worked at the Monument Road complex since December and for the owner, Village Green Cos., since 2005.

We have two choices. Either we live in a hispanic area with high crime, gang violence, etc, or move. I live in Los Angeles and let me tell you it's very dangerous living here. If you look at a hispanic gang member funny you could get shot. I don't think it's fair that people who have lived here all their lives are forced to pack up and move. Sure we don't HAVE to move, but we don't want to get robbed either. I was robbed by two illegals.

Is it just the nature of the game, cons are always going to be behind on whats really going on.

Yes, there is a flipside, that libs can be too far ahead to actually address a current problem (but thats not what this question is about)

Thanks!

My brother quit his job (car dealership/garage) and his boss came and took his van, which he claims they were $500 behind on payments. He was behind on payments, but he had permission to be from the boss, otherwise he would have made sure everything was paid. They weren't going to take it before he quit, can they take it now? Can they just come get it, is there any type of protacol they have to go through, like warning you ahead of time or anything like that?

The American Civil Liberties Union has given their blessing to the public funding of Islamic footbaths at the University of Michigan, to let Muslims wash their feet before prayers.

The ACLU says it has nothing to do with religion.

This pleases CAIR greatly, because now the Islamic community won’t have to pay for them: Muslims won’t fund footbaths. And also because it’s another small step toward shari’a.
