I grew up at the end of the Cold War, but I saw some of the economic and social atrocities of the Soviet Empire. People were paying massive taxes and working with outdated, 50's-era machinery. People waiting in line for hours for basic amenities. And at the top, the military and political leaders lived high on the hog at the people's expense.

Now I see that people--more the political leaders in the Left Wing--are talking of bringing 'shared prosperity' to government by taking the profits of oil companies and other big money-makers and put it in the government's coffers...which is blatant socialism! So I'd like anyone out there to explain to me why you'd want to live in a society that crushes all independent thoughts and wants in favor of having the government make all the decisions for you while taxing you to hell in the process.

They have taken the easy way out.

Its easier to be a liberal than a conservative.

A conservative looks to him/herself for control of their lives. They deal with the successes and the failures.

A liberal wants an outside force to control their life so that when something goes wrong they don't have to acknowledge that they were the one to blame.

Who's warming to it? No one that I know. Here's a game....

Nationalized health care will be paid for by_______? That's right ladies and gentlemen, the answer is YOUR TAX DOLLARS. And.....there's more.......you now have to wait in a long line to see a doctor, and there is no guarantee you will actually see the doctor on the day of your appointment, which will be 3 months away from now. That's not all........your government hospitals will become wards, no more private rooms, the government cannot afford them. And let's talk about surgery. You say your surgery isn't a life or death situation? Then they can fit you in 8 months from now.

Why do you think that people in England and other socialized countries come here for medical care if they can afford it? Because the system here is the best in the world! Once the government gets ahold of it, we'll all be sorry!

Nobody wants to live like that except the politicians. They believe the answer to everything is the government, the whole government and nothing but the government. The republicans took control of congress on the promise of fiscal conservatism and in the face of a liberal socialistic attempt to subvert the health care industry. They lost the congress by not only failing to live up to those promises, but by being worse than their democratic opponents.

Politicians like to play people off each other, the rich versus the poor, big business against the little guy, the haves versus the have nots. They've been building for decades a social services network giving away health care, food, and a cost of living. Why work when the government pays them to stay home and have babies, and the more they have, the More they get paid. The more people on welfare, the more they need to keep the m in power to get the free-bees.

Nobody will say they want it, but Socialism is fast becoming a reality in America.

Nations who called or call themselves socialists were corrupted just like the vast majority of capitalist nations.

Socialism believes in nationalizing the means of production, therefore all income will stay in the state. If you want to work hard and be a millionaire be my guest, but if you are a poor, humble worker in need, in socialism you would find FREE health-care assistance, food and education. It is an utopia, yes. Not hell.

Meanwhile, go ahead and let the "big money-makers" feed the over paid political leaders you love.

People are warming to the idea of socialism because they have been brainwashed in the government controlled education system.

They are not being taught the realities of economics and what happens in a free market system versus one that is controlled by the government.. They are not being taught that our government was instituted with the primary purpose of PROTECTING OUR INDIVIDUAL LIBERTIES instead of running our lives. The national education standards for civics speak of government promoting the "common good" and the protection of individual rights are being presented as secondary rather than primary purpose of government.

People also don't have the opportunity to see up close and personal, the tremendous waste in government operations. Its not just the multi-million dollar bridges to nowhere. It's also the day to day inefficiency and waste in every administrative function and project. We work hard to earn our wages, hand over thousands and thousands of dollars which are then to a large extent wasted. What is the real value delivered for each tax dollar collected? Not much! Most people don't seem to realize this.

What “socialism” are you talking about? Is it the taxpayer money that is given to rich oil companies because they don’t already have enough money? Is it the Bush scheme that further enriched the big pharmaceutical companies by pouring taxpayer money into their coffers through the Medicare prescription program? Maybe Americans would like to see a program that actually benefited ordinary Americans without bankrupting the country in favor of already rich corporations.

Whose interests is the government representing? From the neocon point of view socialism is fine if it’s benefiting certain favored corporations but bad if it benefits ordinary Americans. This kind of backwards thinking is absurd.

This "socialism" propaganda is a scare tactic to keep people from voting in their own best interests and to keep supporting the shifting of taxpayer money to a few well-connected corporate giants.

I believe the premise of your question is wrong. There are not more people favoring socialism. Democrat politicians want socialism. The want the government to run everything and they want to run the government.

In France and in Germany, the people have elected leaders who show signs of moving away from socialism. Sweden has been nearly bankrupted by their socialism.

Because it's easier to be dependent than independent. My kids would LOVE to live at home and have us feed, clothe and house them, but because I love them, I'm not going to allow that. I want them to grow up strong and independent. The government, however, has discovered that it's politically advantageous to create a dependent society. People will vote for you when you give them things. The difference between me and the government is that in both cases, MY MONEY is going to fund this dependent class. The government has no money. They use ours to buy votes. Unfortunately, I can't kick those dependents out of my house or tell the tax man to stuff it when he comes to my door like Tony Soprano looking for his take.

Whoever told you that is simply using more of the same old fear tactics being dished out by the bUsh machine!
Democrats are actually attempting to get the rule of law back in our country, the right of individuals vs corporate giant-favoritism, a common sense approach to getting medical treatment to the under-privileged, and the aged.
None of the other crapola you have been reading, hearing, watching, is true!

And although most of them deny it, that's exactly the direction they are planning on taking this country. In order to look to the future, check out the past and the past will tell you that Socialism is not a great idea and will only hurt those that they 'think' will help, let alone everyone who works for a living.

This is why the true conservatives have their job cut out for them. We must keep these people out of office at all expense.

Unfortunately it is more the secular progressives that are leaning this way. And more and more liberals are falling for their drivel.

They call themselves open minded when in reality their open mindedness is really indifference based on their own self justification. This way they feel they don't have to hold themselves responsible for anything.
