As Americans we should be able to participate in ADULT civil discourse. From reading many of your posts, all I see is childish name calling and snide partisan remarks. Why can't we try working together instead of tearing each other apart?

You know, when I was a kid, I always thought adults were somehow different, that they automatically became more mature and wise.

Unfortunately, the older I get, the more I know that's not the case. There are a lot of adults who are just big kids. Like kids, some adults are happiest using insults and intimidation.

:(

We've tried that. The problem/dilemma is that no matter how much the other side talks, I still have my mind made up and it's not going to change, the same way that the other side has their mind made up and they aren't going to change either. So some frustrated juveniles can't accept that and resort to name calling and the snide partisan remarks

America is a naturally hostile country. Its always at war. In fact, war is an industry. American arms research has found countless ways to efficiently kill thousands in minutes. American citizens kill 30,000 other citizens with guns and wound another 90000 each year. And you expect 'civil' discourse. The first answer you got attacked you.

I agree. The net can be a fantastic tool for getting things done. I am sad to hear this hostility. But for the most part.we are civil. Some people you just have to over look.

I've asked this question before. The issue here is that this forum is open to anyone and is anonymous.
I enjoy a good discussion, especially in politics, but this is getting ridiculous. And it's on both sides.

The simple answer is ignorance. Ignorance of the FACTS, and how to express a coherent sentence, therefore, they resort to partisan innuendo and spew garbage. Yes it gets tiresome, but then if you can teach them to fish....

Oh, paaleez. You think this is an American problem? This forum is an upper-class salon compared to places like izvestija.ru or the forum on Le Monde.

Because while America is at war, there are liberals and democrats here at home who are literally and factually aiding America's enemies and have been for over four years now. I'm sorry, but I can't be 'nice' and civil to a large segment of Americans would cheer every American casualty simply because they believe that that death brings them one step closer to political power.

"Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged." ~ President Abraham Lincoln

How's that for civil discourse?

I think that YA attracts people who are just here to insult. Deleting their accounts just encourages them to come back again and again and lower the ability to have a sane conversation. What YA should do is ban people based on their IP address and be done with it

That's how the Illuminati is playing us. Open your eyes! Those in charge want us to divide because if we fight with ourselves then we won't fight against them. Democrats and Republicans don't want to do anything for you, don't fall into their loyalty trap and go at odds with your fellow Americans.
