they placed my toliet paper across from my cell to taunt me, where was the press and M.D.'s to monitor my mental status? Oh I was in the mental part of the jail alright. That just ment they didn't give me a mattress, and didn't allow me to wear anything but a canvas outfit, no underwear.

I think Miss Hilton should be put in a small dark room, and given a bucket. Thoughts?

There will be another hearing today in a federal courtroom on the ACLU's attempt to force the U.S. government to search in Mexico for a developmentally disabled Lancaster man who was wrongly deported.

Guzman is a 29-year-old U.S. citizen who was serving time in the Los Angeles County Men's Central Jail for a misdemeanor trespassing conviction when he was deported to Tijuana in May.

His mother, brother and sister-in-law traveled to Tijuana and searched shelters, jails, churches, hospitals and morgues, but have not found him and fear for his safety.

Why do people assume that the 10th Amendment allows individual states to take away people's rights?

The Constitution is a document designed to restrict governmental authority; why do people assume the 10th Amendment was put into place to give the states more authority than the federal government?

The states do not represent the people. And the people are supposed to be more powerful in this country than the government.

I have read here that men should not interfere in women's health decisions. I may even agree. But just to stir the pot, why do people think male circumcision is not frowned upon, as female circumcision is?

I have no problem with the difference. Basically, it's because men and women are not identical, and no amount of legislation will make them so. They are legally equal, but not physically interchangeable. Therefore the procedures are different, although the term "female circumcision" covers several procedures.

But it's interesting to me that just like abortion is subject to some regulation although (as one poster mentioned) vascectomies are not, female circumcision is treated differently from male circumcision.

What do you know? Men and women ARE different!

I hope we can discuss this somewhat maturely. Thanks.

I just watched another war movie (Days of Glory) in which one infantryman turns around to talk to another one, and in doing so inadvertently points his rifle at him. I've seen this in TV shows too. This has to be a no-no in real life right?

It seems as if everyone hates George Bush and uses him as a scapegoat for all of their problems.

I would just like to know why, and if you're going to be dumb about it, then don't bother answering.

I'm asking for intellectual answers.

I just want your opinion.

Making illegals citizens would be extremely unfair to people who came here legally and went through the long process. My family came here in the 70s and it took them forever, cost them lots of money, and caused much frustration before they finally became citizens. It's just not fair.

So generally, republicans are known as conservatives, so explain this to me:

Why is it that since the Republicans had control of the White House and Congress for so long, actually spent us into a deficit after a democratic president left office with a surplus? High federal spending isn't my idea of conservative.

They say "the wealth will be concentrated in fewer and fewer hands" and sometimes this is true and sometimes this isn't true but what's always true is "the wealth" keeps growing - - - you might go from 100 people 90 of whom have 5 each and 10 of whom have 100 each to 110 people 80 of whom have 10 each, 20 of whom have 150 each and 10 of whom have 1000 each - - "the wealth" is more concentrated but it's not that there is a fixed pie that is just sliced differently, there's just a much bigger pie and everyone's slice is bigger than it used to be even if for some it is smaller relative to the whole.

In absolute terms the freer the economy the more wealth and income per capita and the greater economic mobility. Also the differences among large groups tend to correlate to age - - the "income gap" for example is largely between baby boomers and Gen-Xers / Gen-Yers and less among permanent classes than was the case when tax rates were much higher.

Someone here posted a question asking why Democrats degraded rich people. He then argued that making money and striving for success were good things. He also asked why we wanted to be "average".

Excuse me, but I have nothing against making money. In fact, I'm all for striving for money and success as long as it's all done ethically. Not only that, but would a person who places value on things other than money, success, and material possessions be considered BELOW AVERAGE? Perhaps some people place value on other things. Perhaps they place more value on things like personal fulfillment and making a valuable contribution to society. Not only that, but the mere implication that anyone who isn't wealthy is below average is an insult to MOST Americans. Sure, most Americans work for a living, but most of them certainly don't get rich. However, in my opinion, as long as you do good, honest work, you're ABOVE average, even if you don't get rich.

Is it right that in the 21st Century that people in jail can be treated so badly - chain gangs, made to wear pink, fed bad food, put in tents. And that's in America.

I've been in jail twice once for 30 days and once for 6 months and lucky it wasn't like that although it was bad enough. People can be jail for minor stuff like DUI or theft or drugs charges and it doesn't seem right to me that you should be treated as badly.
