There are people who immigrated to this country from Europe on boats and got citizenship right away. People coming from Cuba and Haiti come on boats and some get turned back and die back in their country.

There are others, like myself, who immigrated here legally and had to wait 5 years before I could even file for citizenship.

In the new immigration bill those who are undocumented have to go through a lengthy process up to 12 years, learn English and many other things before citizenship is even put on the table. What is the big deal? Sign it and lets stop the illegal activity. Do you really want this to continue?

My husband is talking to an army recruiter tonight at our house. He is planning on signing papers and joining tonight. Only problem is that he does not have his GED or diploma. The recruiter said it will not be a problem and that he just has to get it before basic. What I am worried about is that he is going to have trouble with the test. See, he has a slight learning disability to where he has great difficulty with spelling and trouble reading...

A friend told me that it won't matter because the army will help him every step of the way and that there are lots of soldiers who can't read well or at all. I don't want my husband disappointed in himself... help!

Even not taking into consideration they are aiding and abiding our enemies and given comfort and support to those who kill our soldiers, at the very least, US democrat liberals are guilty of perpetuating a hostile, violent enviroment for our soldiers and keeping our soldiers in harms way longer.

My sister-in-law WAS an illegal alien! (she is now a US citizen with a house bigger than all her siblings by far)
She has 13 brothers and sisters and half of them were illegal.
They may have worked hard to get here and work now BUT - THEIR KIDS ARE IN GANGS, STEALING, UNWED MOTHERS, and basically are TRASH. They believe in entitlements and don't want to work.

My little niece who is 8 and half Mexican wants the borders closed, her relatives to speak English, and all of them to get jobs. She's EIGHT.

Isn't the DOT funded by tax dollars? Why would they be concerned about the auto makers?

House oversight chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) wrote Transportation Secretary Mary Peters today requesting information about “apparent efforts by the Department to lobby Members of Congress to oppose efforts by California and other states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles.” In a voicemail message received by a member of Congress, an aide at the Transportation Department acts as an auto lobbyist, urging the member to take a stand on tougher state emission standards because “‘this would greatly impact the auto facilities’ in the member’s district.”

Both from the psychological and legal standpoints. Are there books out there that deal with this? Other sites where there have been discussions of people falsely imprisoned and eventually released? Etc.

No seriously, how can you like this man? What has he done to help you? Seriously how can you back someone who has done such a bad job? He's put us in debt when we were ahead of the game for the first time in 20 years. He's sent thousands to their death for financial reasons. Every country in the world hates us. And above all he's an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please some enlighten me.

It sets forth that any illegal alien in the country at the time the law is passed is granted immunity from prosecution in exchange for $5,000. Then, the person must return to his or her home country, but for another pretty hefty fine (I think it's another $5,000, but I'm not sure), the U.S. will process his or her application to become a U.S. citizen.

Since it's fairly common knowledge that illegal aliens work for pitiful wages under the table... where are they going to get this kind of money?

And since we aren't even enforcing our CURRENT immigration laws, what happens to those illegal aliens who refuse to step forward? What is the penalty for breaking yet another of our laws?

I certainly think there should be a way to do this. But I have read a lot on these boards about concerns for privacy and government intrusion without a sufficient showing of "wrongdoing" by the person being "spied on." I have also read about how the government shouldn't be intruding into the doctor's office, and interfering in the doctor-patient relationship, in contexts such as abortion.

So what do you think? I personally think that there are circumstances where protecting the victim of an alleged rape would justify this, even in (some) circumstances where the person was not yet convicted of a crime. Just as there are circumstances where protecting against terrorism (Patriot Act) and protecting the unborn (abortion) may mean that some degree of intrusion is necessary.

Are you an absolutist on this? Do you oppose one, but favor another, type of "domestic surveillance?" Why? Or is it just a matter of safeguards in each case - that the devil's in the details? Seems similar.

Congress numbers are lower than the President Bush's numbers.
Doesn't that say somthing profound and clear?

When I see this Gonzalas and Rove farce I just shake my head. I know Sen. Schummer has other things he could be doing. No one outside of DC really cares about this and in 18 months it wont matter.

Stop the side shows!!!

This is a true story...I had no idea of the brutality perpetrated upon the Soux in the name of the American government. Why is the truth not more well known? I always thought that Sitting Bull after returning from Canada died of natural, although miserable, causes but he was murdered by the troops..this is a sad, sad story.
